Dining out in Orlando FL - Please share your experiences
Hello all
My family and I will be traveling to Orlando (From England) shortly. It is our first time and we will spend 10 days there.
I am desperate for restaurant suggestions, looking for a couple of romantic nights out (Hubby & I ) then family dining (Two teenagers)for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
We are interested in all price ranges.
Since this is out first visit an address or directions to restaurants would be very helpful.
Thank you
Susan

Hi Susan,
I've been 5 times with my wife - last year we went as a group, mum/dad + sister & 2 kids - going again in September.
1st - get the books, "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids" or "A Brit's Guide to Orlando Florida and Walt Disney World 2002"
They will answer a lot of your needs.
To be honest, there are far too many good restaraunts to mention here. The Brit's Guide does them more justice - and I'd be writing for hours to tell you my favourites!! some of which are -
B-Line Diner - Peabody Hotel.
Renaissance Orlando Resort - unlimited champgne Sunday Brunch .
Bahama Breeze
House of Blues
Pebbles
Rainforest Cafe
Pebbles
Red Lobster

This site also gives reviews of many good dining places - you will needs weeks of planning to choose.
Happy hunting.

Susan, for breakfast on weekdays I recommend Shoney's, which serves a large hot and cold buffet that has something for everyone and it is very reasonably priced. That meal will carry you through most of the day. On weekends Golden Corral serves an even larger breakfast buffet. Golden Corral is also a good choice for lunch on weekdays and weekends because the selection is so vast (salad bar, pasta bar, taco bar, baked potato bar, chicken, rice, potatoes, vegetables, and a dessert bar just to name a few) there is always something that will please everyone in your family. Jungle Jim's (in the Crossroads Shopping Center across from Disney Village off I-4) is a fun place to eat, and there's (fun) fondue restaurant in Orlando but I can't remember the name of it. Shoney's and Golden Corral have many locations in the area and I'm sure the concierge or front desk personnel at your hotel can steer you to the closest locations.

If you're at EPCOT have lunch (or dinner) at the Akershus/Norway buffet. The variety is enormous and everything is very tasty. Cold buffet with small shrimp, lox and scrambled eggs, a variety of herring, deviled eggs--good stuff. The hot part of the buffet includes cod in butter and dill, Swedish meatballs, other things I can't remember but all good and not the kind of thing you find every day in Orlando or anyplace else around here.
I haven't tried it but the upscale restaurant at the new lodge in the Animal Kingdom looks terrific and I've read good things about it. If you can't go there for dinner, at least schedule brunch there. It's fabulous. Again, things you don't get any place else (although it also has standards) and very tasty.

There are at least three Bahama Breezes in the Orlando area, and one in Tampa. (They're run by the Red Lobster and Olive Garden people) One is on International Drive near the Peabody Hotel and Pointe Orlando Shopping Area, one is on Rt. 535 in Lake Buena Vista (just east of I-4), and one is in Altamonte Springs at the RT. 436 exit north of Orlando. They open at 4 PM.

Please, for the love of God, do not go to Shoney's or Golden Corral! While there is nothin inheriently wrong with either of these places, they are just large national chains with nothing particularly interesting about them. It would be simillar to suggesting a trip to McDonald's or Pizza Hut! I personally don't have any recommendations (as I am looking for suggestions myself for a trip to Orlando next weekend). But I would say that this forum is a good starting place, its just hard to know which suggestions to follow!

I have the misfortune of having to go Orlando for work and the saving grace is eating at Pebbles, which is in the Crossroads Shopping Center near Downtown Disney. They also have a branch in downtown Orlando. Really really interesting food and very reasonable rates.

Susan, the family and I were in Orlando last month and thanks to this forum we found our way to Shoney's and Golden Corral. It's not gourmet, but it beats beans and bread if you know what I mean. I have 2 daughters 8 and 10 and a son 14. There was something that everyone liked at both places and they got full. My husband became a big fan of those shredded potatoes for breakfast at Shoney's. We couldn't believe the choices at Golden Corral and they were all good. There's nothing like it here, so give it a try. It's a good way to balance your budget and to try different places in the states.
