previous message got cut off -
Old Bath House - early dinner a very
good bargain. 3 courses with
several entree choices for $25 or so.
Passion Fish - in downtown Pacific Grove
on Lighthouse Avenue. Good menu,
very reasonable wine list.
Also Roys at Pebble Beach - in the Inn
at Spanish Bay. Arrive before sunset
and sit outside by the fireplace to
see (and hear) the bagpiper coming
across the golf course to close the
course.

For a casual lunch or dinner, Sea Harvest on Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey; no ambience at all, but the freshest, simplest seafood at reasonable prices. It's near the Aquarium. Pasta Mia in Pacific Grove is charming. Montrio in downtown Monterey is outstanding for modern California cuisine. I second the vote for Roy's at Pebble Beach. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants with a view of the bay are tourist traps, but we had good luck at Paradiso on Cannery Row, though I don't know if it still exists. Also on Cannery Row is a small outpost of Ghirardelli Chocolate--great for gifts, and the shakes are out of this world. Lastly, if you go out to Point Lobos, and you should, there are a couple of good restaurants in the Carmel Highlands shopping center; one whose name escapes me specializes in steak in fish and is quite good, despite the strip mall setting. Carmel itself boasts some great restaurants, too, but I'm not as familiar with those. Enjoy!

My husband and I spent one night in Monterey in November so had one night for dinner. We chose Cafe Fina located on the pier. It was excellent! We had the roasted garlic as an appetizer and both had the local fish called sanddabs for the main course - very popular.

You say "dining" so I will take that to include breakfast.
First Awakenings in the American Tin Cannery Outlet Center, North End at the smoke stack. Great for breakfast, brunch or lunch.
That's located just inside Pacific Grove at the end of Cannery Row where it meets Ocean View Blvd.
I envy your being there!
