Dining @ Hearst Castle(CA)??!!

We have decided to go on the evening tour after all. The living history part sold us. The reservations person says there is a sit down place to eat at the castle. I am suspicious as most state parks provide snacks at the very most. Does anyone remember the quality or setting of the food service here?

I've been to the castle on a number of occasions and do not remember a sit down restaurant. They have a snack bar, but that's about all I remember and I was up there just a few months ago. You might want to call back and see if someone can confirm the restaurant information. As for dining, there are a number of good restaurants in Cambria. I'd recommend stopping in Cambria for dinner and then heading to the castle for the tour.

We like the Sow's Ear in Cambria for a cozy dinner. Bramble's is the best place in town. If you're driving in from SLO, you could also have dinner at the Great American Fish Co. or Dorns Seafood in Morro Bay. I don't recall any sit down dining room at Hearst Castle--it would have to be in the reception area and so wouldn't be in the "castle" itself. BTW when I cautioned you about the road over from SLO, I was thinking of one trip we did from Paso Robles over Hwy 46. The drive from SLO we've done as well, and it's quite easy so I apologize if I made you worry.

Hearst Castle has a food stand which serves corndogs, french fries, nachos, sodas, your typical stadium fare. It's pretty expensive and there are no picnic tables around. I would suggest going into Cambria as well.

Well there was a snack bar and a BBQ on the patio. The BBQ was very good during the day. They had tri-tip, chicken, or hot links. We did go to Brambles. It was very good.We had breakfast at the Madonna Inn. What a wild place that is! The drink called the Pink Cloud is delicious. Thanks to all who offered advice!
