Difficult Question - need advice
Ok - my family wants to return to Hawaii next summer for a weeklong vacation. We have already been to Hawaii (although not Maui - the island we would go to) and I want to go to Kansas and Oklahoma.
Before you think this is a joke, Kansas and Oklahoma are the last of the 50 states I need to complete the 50.
I've got to get there at some point and now is as good a time as any in my opinion. I think my wife and kids are pretty selfish considering I have already taken them to Hawaii. What do you think?

If seeing all 50 states is that important to you, then find some ValueJet Fly 'em cheap fares to Oklahoma City...fly there on Friday, rent a car...drive three hours to Wichita, KS. Take a dump, buy a hooker, have a nap or whatever it is that qualifies you to "see" that state. Then on Saturday drive back to Oklahoma, rip off a drunk Indian, spend the night and fly out on Sunday.
Please, for the love of God do not waste a vacation on this crap...especially if you are considering Hawaii!

Are you serious? Seems to me there are a lot of people out there that would love to just have the option to go to Hawaii. When compared to Kansas and Oklahoma (no offense meant)its not even a real question.
Seems like seeing all 50 states is you goal, not your families. Take a long weekend and fly over there yourself, then rent a car and drive to the other. That will allow you to check them off your list and not bore your family to death.

Hey Stan - who is paying for this vacation? If it's you, then go where you want and let them stay home if they don't want to come with you. If it's them, then let them choose. You are a fool if you are letting your kids dictate where and how you spend your money. Sorry, but this is one you WILL have to negotiate with your wife, tho.

Be considerate and go to Hawaii. Save Oklahoma and Kansas for another time. By the way, I recently visited Tulsa for the first time and it is a VERY nice city (much nicer IMO than Ok.City). There is a lot going on and it seemed very clean and very friendly people. You'll probably be very surprised as I was to see how lovely it is. Save it for later though, go to Maui.

I can't believe the reaction here. Is it only important to me to see all 50? Did anyone hear that we have already been to Oahu?
Yes my family is being selfish! I have already taken them to Hawaii, I have not been to Kansas and Oklahoma though.
I never said Kansas and Oklahoma were great vacation spots (obviously it was never high on my list being the last of the 50) but I'm sure there are great Indian museums.

I know what your going threw, I'm currently trying too go too 100 countries.. and one thing I don't much care for is returning too the same place I've been, even if I had the greatest time in my life.. It just deviates from the goal... JUST finish your quest man... I'm envious... good luck...

Personally, I think you're FOS. But if you must, go by yourself and save your family the urge to tie you to the back bumper like that poor dog in "Vacation". By the way, if you haven't been to all the major Hawaiian islands, or on only to Oahu, you haven't really seen much of Hawaii. In fact, I wouldn't ven give you credit for visiting if you haven't been to Kauai and the big island. As for me, I once took a dump flying over Kansas and I did count that as a visit.

Based on your response to the suggestions above I think you were just looking for validation to do what you wanted. I think you ought to reconsider the advice of you taking a quick weekend trip to go see the indian museums and then taking your family to Maui.
