Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge regarding this hotel? Some details would be appreciated!

Hi Chels. I live about a mile up the road from the Diamond Resort but have only been in there once to walk around. I can tell you a little bit about it though. It was extremely quiet as in NO_ONE around, not even staff! It is not on the beach. You would need to take their shuttle or rent a car to go to the beaches. If you do want easily accessible beaches in Wailea you should stay at the Kea Lani, 4 Seasons, Grand Wailea, Renaissance or Outrigger.
I do believe that the Diamond Resort is very much geared towards Japanese clientele in it's service and food, so I'm guessing both are excellent.

Thanks for the advice. Now, regardless of where we stay, we will be renting a car so transpo is not a problem. We will try your other suggestions as well! By the way, from your walk through the hotel, do you recall if the property was very nice or shabby, etc.?

Chels -- It struck me as very quiet, rather shady (in the lack of sunlight sense). It is a dark wood and stone building and there was a Japanese garden in there too. It is one story as you approach it but they have built down from there using the topography to open it out on the back side of the building. Overall I was not impressed, it felt more like a small conference location than a hotel. There was no-one there to greet us as we pulled up, or direct us. The other hotels in the area are so bright and airy with lots of sculptures and flowers around, it did not compare well. Sorry I'm not much more succinct help! I will ask around
