Destin or Siesta Key/Huricane season

When is it safe to go to east coast?? When is the hurricane season done? Florida mainly.

Just wanted a relaxing beautiful beach. Destin or Siesta Key or maybe St. Augustine. There has got to be an opinion out there. Looking for nice places to stay as well. 65ish. Like walking the beach maybe bike riding and unique restaurants.

Hurricane season is "officially" over on 30 November.

I've been to Siesta Key, it was nice enough. I was really in a hotel on Lido Beach, which is a short drive to a built-up area with lots of good restaurants (St Armands Circle).

this was it, I liked it a lot

I haven't been there for about 5 years though and it has changed hands (used to be a Helmsley). I notice it only has a 3.5 on Tripadvisor now which isn't a stellar rating.

Destin looks nice.

I think the advantage of Siesta Keyy/Lido Beach is that you are next to Sarasota where there are a few things to do not beach related. But you don't want that, so maybe another area would be better for me. Having been to St Augustine, again, I think that's a place you go to sightsee, history, etc., the beach didn't strike me as anything that great. You know beaches aren't the same on the East Coast as the Gulf.

Where are you coming from?

Destin is a long way from the Sarasota area.

If you are coming from the mid-South or mid-West, it gives you another couple of days on the beach. From the East, not so much.

My impression is that there are lots of high rises in Destin, though the beaches are gorgeous. St Armand's-Lido-Siesta have fewer high rises, IIRC.

Coming from IA Destin is where we are leaning toward. Anyone reccommend any small beach homes or nice resorts?

What time of year? I would choose Pensacola Beach over crowded Destin. You can contact any of the real estate companies on the island and book a condo directly on the Gulf. I would recommend the western end of the island, along Fort Pickens Blvd. If you would rather stay in a hotel, there are plenty to choose from, but make sure you are Gulf front since you want to take beach walks.

There are bike paths on the island and places to rent bikes. There are plenty of good restaurants and shops on the island as well.

If you're interested in history, you can visit Fort Pickens on the island. Downtown Pensacola is very historic and has loads of restaurants, shops, museums, etc. It has recently undergone a revitalization and is actually very nice.

Pensacola also has the Naval Air Museum, which is first class, as well as Fort Barrancas and the lighthouse.
