Denver vs. Minneapolis vs. Seattle
I am looking to go somewhere this summer to do an internship, and want a place with lots of nature and easy access to outdoor activities. Based on research, I have narrowed it down to Denver, Minneapolis, or Seattle. Can anyone provide the tiebreaking vote?
Thanks for taking a "non-travel" question. This is a great site.

I personally would vote for Seattle - Minniapolis is too cold for my blood, and Denver, while I've never been there doesn't seem that it would be my cup of tea (and I love skiing). Seattle is a wonderful city and the people spend the majority of their time outside and doing stuff.

I have been to all three on business. Seattle has terrible traffic, but it is by the Sound. If you like water, go for it.
Minneapolis is very underrated and is gorgeous in the summer. They have running and biking trails like you wouldn't believe. But it can be humid.
Denver, while near the mountains, is not what I thought it would be. If you could move Denver 20 miles closer to the mountains, it would be perfect.

I vote for Seattle. I loved Seattle. It was JUST gorgeous when I was there in late July and early August. Minnesota has humidity and mosquitoes you can ride to work, and Denver is just getting... kinda icky. Its now a big city, with big city problems, crime etc.
The bus system in Seattle was quite sufficient for us when we were there. Didn't even need a car.

Where are you coming from Lou? If we had any idea of what your hometown is like, we might be able to give you a better idea of what would be the most unique destination and experience for you.
But without knowing that info, Seattle would get my vote. What a fun town for a youung person. Great scenery - water, mountains and a fun city scene.

If you are looking for "lots of nature and easy access to outdoor activities" for a summer, Denver is a no brainer. The hiking, rafting, and camping opportunities are endless. Great parks in and around the city too. And you couldn't ask for more perfect weather - no humidity and it never rains. The saying around here.. "you move to Denver for the winters but stay for the summers". Good luck.

Someone needs to put in a plug for Minneapolis. I am from St. Louis, and we spend several summer weeks traveling. Minneapolis/St. Paul is totally underrated. With an abundance of trails, lakes, trees, and the arts, it always pleases our family. While there is humidity, it is nowhere near what we get in Missouri.
I agree that Denver has a great climate, but the crappy thing is that it is a 2 hour drive to get to the mountains. Denver itself might as well be in Nebraska. Seattle is nice. I don't think you'll go wrong with any of the 3.
Have you considered Madison, WI, or Boise, ID?
