Denver Ski Rental by Airport

We are spending a week skiing at Beaver Creek around Christmas. We are flying to Denver Intl Airport. We will be renting a car at the airport.

Can anyone suggest a place that is convenient to drive to from the airport where we could rent skis before we drive to Avon.

Thank you.

Don't know about the airport but there are several places you'll see along I-70, after you get in the mountains. You might want to check out Sports Authority in Dillon. They are the cheapest I've found. Dillon is the first exit after the Eisenhower Tunnel.

We have rented skiis in Dillon also. Much better prices than at the resorts.

You're smart to get rentals before arriving at the ski area. Sports Authority is a good place, or Google for Breeze Ski Rental locations, one of which is on I-70 near Idaho Springs, I think. Enjoy skiing in Colorado!

P.S. Also, check the Entertainment Book and the E-book (a different book, sold by Denver Post), for good ski rental discounts.

You will be better off by getting near/in the mountains before you rent. Cheaper, more convenient, etc. Lots of places on the way, right off I70.

Be sure your rental car has a ski rack.

Consider the money savings versus the lack of flexibility you will have if you rent in the mountains.

I rented before I hit the slopes- once. Never again because once we got to Vail we had 18" of powder in 24 hours and our rental skis were all wrong for the ski conditions.

We are intermediate skiers who go on ski vacations twice a year- usually to Aspen where they groom the sh!t out of many runs so we weren't prepared to ski powder in Vail where the runs aren't groomed as much as Aspen (and thats not a complaint, just a difference) without big ole, really FAT parabolics. Too bad, cause we were too far from our rental location to turn them in for different skis.

Another thing is that you may decide after a day or two that a different length ski would be more comfortable for you and you won't be able to exchange them.

That should have read, "Consider the money savings versus the lack of flexibility you will have if you DON'T rent in the mountains."

The last poster has it right. Just rent at the mountain, or at least nearby. Lots of things can happen to equipment during the week--and you may improve so much you want a higher performance ski. Also not worth the hassle on the way back to the airport.
