Astroworld holds a lot of nice memories from when I went to high school in Houston. I was driving past it a couple of months ago and I was sad when I saw cranes tearing down the rides.

I also loved Aquarina Springs in San Marcos, TX. My grandparents took me there several times as a child--so many happy memories.

FOUNTAINE FERRY!!! Oh yeah. I went there every year for my birthday. When I see that name (or hear someone say it) I have the same emotional reaction as when someone talks about The Derby and the Kentucky State Fair. Fountaine Ferry feels like it is a piece of who I am. The anticipation, the excitement, those little cars! Thanks Sara for the bit of history about why it closed. I had no idea.

Opryland!!!

I'm glad I checked this post out. It has brought back great memories: Santa's Village, Frontier Village and Marineland of the Pacific.

Marineland was the first "big" park we had ever been to. Bubbles the whale. Our first visit was in 1963. In 1979, a group of us were stuck in LA for a day, so we headed over to Marineland. It had really gone downhill and was dated. We got to see Orki and Corky the killer whales. About 3 1/2 years ago, we visited SeaWorld in San Diego. There was a whale named Corky. Could it be the same Corky?? I asked. She was 38 years old and yes, she had come from Marineland!!

HAUNTEDHEADNC - Could you be talking about Ghost Town in the Sky near Maggie valley? They had wild west shootouts, panning for gold, rides, etc.

Kiddie Towne at the Northshore Shopping Center in Peabody! I saw that Kiddie Towne was referenced by a few people and wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of a new website that has just been established to share memories and photos, www.kiddietowne.org

The Salem Evening News recently featured a front page story about this park - now only a memory for some. Mom's used to drop their children off at the park, leave them with a fistful of tickets and head off to do their shopping. We would love to have your memories posted on the Kiddie Towne website!

Thank you for remembering a place, now only folklore, where I worked and so many of people enjoyed.

Another fun place that is no more was the old Fun House on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. You'd walk in thru the clown's mouth, then watch out for the air coming out of holes in the floor. It had the giant barrels to walk thru, the disk to fly off of and the slide, where you used an old sack to sit on.

Fun!! Wonderful memories.

Elitch Gardens Amusement Park in Denver. I Spent many a days there as a child while om vacation visiting family.

Six Gun Territory in Florida was a favorite as a kid.I Loved the the old west theme and the shootouts in the street. But my favorite was Roseland Park in Canandaigua NY. It sat right on the lake and the skyride would take you over the water.It had a wooden roller coaster called the Skyliner. Great Family memories that will never be forgotten there. It closed in the mid 80s.

I just remembered a park that was located in Salamanca, NY called Fentier Village. It was a wild west type park.

Tolchester Beach in Maryland and Riverview Park in southern new Jersey.

MarthaT -- hey, I was in Warren/Youngstown in the mid-sixties and nobody ever said anything about an amusement park. Somebody's got some 'splainin to do.

In SoCal, the Alligator Farm (wanna pet my snake? ) was across the street from Knott's Berry Farm. A few blocks away was the Cars of Stars, Planes of Fame, although not exactly an amusement park, you could see Uncle Martin's C spaceship, Robbie the Robot, and other movie props & stuff (Von Dutch > slept here!).

Marineland of the Pacific -- I always liked the seals playing the bulbed-horns and other antics -- contributed/consulted on the "Sea Hunt" TV show with Lloyd Bridges. There was also an original McDonald's somewhere around there, only 15 cents for a hamburger (those day's are definitely gone).

And, a shout out to Wendy/Jeannie/Patty's dad for building those dinosaurs out in Cabazon =D> (wanna buy a pie?), would Pee Wee Herman have ever got his bike back without them?

Although I never went to Euclid Beach Park I do faintly remember an old episode of Route 66 which featured that park. Funny since Route 66 never did go thourgh Cleveland. Anyone else remember this or am i getting senile already?

DB, The Warren-Youngstown area park..is that Idora Park?

No one has mentioned the passing of the Pike?? A Hyatt hotel now sits either right on that spot, or very close to it. Actually I was sort of afraid of the Pike area when I lived there. It had a pretty bad reputation so I never ventured close.

Lakeside Amusement Park in Salem Virginia! Awesome as a kid...once rode the Shooting Star rollercoaster 35 times in one day!

Go to to the link below and scroll through the pictures to see the roller coaster and the park itself through the years...the roller coaster was made of wood. One of the pics in the early years is interesting because it shows the roller coaster sitting in the middle of farmland. Reminds me of the movie "Field of Dreams" -- build it and they will come! Later of course,and to this day the land around it was commercialized with stip malls, restaurants, etc.

Wet 'n' Wild in Garland, TX. Every summer my brother and I got season passes along with 3 other kids (our best friends) and our parents would alternate with theirs, dropping us off in the morning and picking us up in the evenings. We could run wild all day (stopping every hour to apply sunscreen) and then go home. Those were the days!
