O.K. Dreamer2 I can vaguely remember it. I think it was up on the second level at the end of the mall. Of course that was before they enclosed the mall.
I do remember the circus that would be at the end floating bridge in Lynn. ;-)

Dreamerw - I remember the amusements at the North Shore Shopping Center. It popped back into my memory when I read about Kidde Land. They were down the end near the supermarket. I lived close enough to Pleasure Island to watch the train from my bedroom window. It's funny, I can remember that but don't remember too much about actually going there except as a teenager sneaking in to look around after it had been shut down. We still go up to Salem Willows. We have to get those popcorn bars at least once every summer.

There was also a Santa's VIllage in the San Bernadino mtns in southern Ca. I think it stayed open until the 80's. All I remember were the reindeer.
My favorite was LEGEND CITY - an old west amusement pak in Phoenix in the 60's & 70's. It was great - when it first opened it was one price for all the rides (at that time Dsneyland was using the per ride tickets - remember 'E' tickets?)
Then it changed to per ride tickets and it went downhill. Arizona SUmmer heat was also a problem.
Best attraction was the Wallace and Ladmo stage show. W&L were the local kiddy show hosts (on air from 1954-1989). They were great and every kid who grew up in Phoenix during that time loved them. ALthough it has been off the air for 15 yrs, their 50th Anniversary get-together drew hundreds last month.

Not defunct yet, but word around the mountains of North Carolina is that Tweetsie Railroad has lost it's land lease. It will be open this year and I have heard they are negotiating but I have heard other locals say this may very well be the last year. If so this name will be added to your list.

When I was 5-8 my dance recital was held every year at Americana and LaSourdesville Lake in southern Ohio. I got to dance on stage in front of hundreds (okay, dozens)of fans (okay, parents)in sweet little costumes which I still have 35 years later.
I am sure those parks are closed now. There was a kiddie roller coaster that was my first. You never forget your first...

One of the most recently closed parks is Paul Bunyon Land in Brainerd Minnesota. Every tmie we would go there I would be amazed that the fire department hadn't closed down the haunted house. The "climax" of the haunted house was ending up in this pitch dark room where you had to find the door to get out...there was no lit EXIT sign or anything...what an absolute fire trap!

I love reading this post! Brings back memories, especially from the Mass. posters. My parents used to bring us to Benson's Wild Animal Farm in NH!! Loved it as a kid. Does anyone remember Mountain Park in Holyoke, MA? We practically lived there as kids and teen-agers. I think it closed about 15- 20 years ago. I brought my daughters there when they were real little. It had wooden roller coaster, great old-fashioned rides such as whip, tilt-whirl, dodge-ems. As teens, we went there to see rock & roll bands, such as Paul Revere & the Raiders, Chad & Jeremy, some others I can't remember.
Does anyone know if Catskill Game Farm in NY is still in existence?

I, too, remember Youngstown's Idora Park. The Jackrabbit was the 2nd biggest coaster there. The main attraction was the teriffic Wildcat, one of tha alltime great wooden coasters. Idora had a cool penny arcade and funhouse. I remember being scared by the laughing lady on top of the funhouse when I was really little.
I do know that the Merry-go-round was sold and kept intact, I think the same happened to the Airplane ride. The coasters, unfortunately simply rotted away.

I like Sara grew up in Louisville, Kentucky so my favorite park is also Fountaine Ferry. I also went in Hilarity Hall on my first visit to the park in 1960. I was 8 years old and when the operator blew my mother's dress up, she screamed--and all of the men yelling and whistleing scared me but mom gave them a good show and we left immediately. Dianne 222

Growing up in San Diego I too remember Lion Country Safari, Santa's Village, Busch Gardens, and Marineland. East of San Diego in the Lakeside area was a small amusement park by the name of Marshall Scotty's. Because it was so close my family and I use to go their often. It has been closed for several years but park is still there with all the major rides. The ferris wheel and bumber cars can still be seen from the freeway. I know because I live east of it and drive by it several times a day. What memories!!

Two more:
Lenape Park in West Chester, PA. Never went on any of the rides, but my cousin and I used to swim in the pool there in the early 1950s.
Bertrand's Island in North Arlington, NJ. I remember the old wooden roller coaster which ended with a splash.

Thanks for the great posting idea! What fun to read all 92!
I have to vote for Santa's Village. I barely remember it from the mid-60s, but I do remember the deer. Also, did it have big colored mushrooms could could climb up and sit on?

Does anyone remember one...it was in either Georgia, one of the Carolinas, driving up towards that area. I think it was called SOUTH OF THE BORDER? It was mexican themed. It just came to me the other day, but I can't remember the name. I never went to it, but as a kid, we traveled by car extensively and I always saw a little Mexican with signs all the way up the coast. I lived in Florida then, so we'd drive northeastward toward NY.

Freedomland in The Bronx {NY}
; Danbury Fair {CT} and I was one of the lucky ones, got to swim with the sharks at Marineland {CA} and I also remember The Nut Tree {great food, still have a recipe book from there}. If you are in the area {about 45 minutes north of NYC}, Rye NY has a great amusment park "Playland" that is in the National Historic register and is a delight. I also remember Adventures Inn and I never went, Palisades Park evokes memories of a song that made every kid in the neighborhood beg to be taken there {always was told it was to far from Westchester, so we ended up at Playland, a great substitute. Thanks for the memories!

Boblo, great memories. The drive downtown, traveling on the boat-all helped increase the anticipation of the final destination. I always remember the excitement I felt when the boat was docking on the island, watching down from above the deck and even more excitement when you walked the jetway onto the island. The gleem of the water, the carnival music beckoning you further and the smell of popcorn and ,yes, the sun always shined. Brings tears to my eyes to think of the wonderful joys of youth. I wonder what my girl's memories will be of, I can't think of anything that quite has the simplicity and joy of Boblo Island.

I miss Rocky Point Park in W. Warwick, RI, and Palisades Park in NJ. We used to take our kids to Rocky Point, and often drove there just for the take out clamcakes and chowder, sitting by Narraganett Bay to enjoy them and the sea air.
KAC
PS - I didn't know that Savin Rock Park had closed! I remember when it opened. We were little kids then, never got to go there, just saw it up there on the mountain.

Gingerbread Castle, Hamburg, NJ
I searched for it recently and discovered my beloved fairy tale land is now a "haunted mansion" around Halloween and is totally run down.
Maybe it was when I was a kid too... I just remember meeting Hanzel...
