Deciding on lodging/Napa/Sonoma area

Will be spending a night in the "wine country" of California in early May. Can't decide between Vintage Inn and Napa Valley Lodge. Both have good ratings. Would like comments from someone who's stayed there or who is familiar with the accommodations.
Thank you.

You can't go wrong with either. Go with the best deal is my advice. I've stayed at the Vintage Inn and it was nice - ask for a room with a deck & view of the vineyards. Napa Valley Lodge is in a great location.

I have also stayed at the Vintage Inn and found it to be very nice. The rooms are in clusters of buildings with lovely grounds. The rooms are spacious and each have a balcony or terrace. They serve a nice continental breakfast in the attractive lobby area. It is located in Yountville which is a pleasant little town -also host to the much celebrated French Laundry Restaurant and near Domaine Chandon.

I have also stayed at the Vintage Inn and thought it was very charming. I remember a champagne full breakfast buffet when we stayed there (1994) but that may have changed to a continental breakfast. If I had to go to Wine Country again I would definitely stay there again. We had a room with a terrace that opened out to the gardens. There is also water running through the garden area (don't know how to describe it), but it was very pleasant and pretty.

Stayed at the Vintage Inn, and found it to be OK, but nothing special. The complex follows a hut-like theme, and most rooms have a balcony. Careful of getting a room facing the man freeway, as it may be a bit noisy for you. The rooms themselves are basic, quite clean, with high ceilings, but somehow missed the mark. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the furnishings look a bit tired and lacking in inspiration. This is a shame, as the rooms are large. We had an ant problem in the bathroom also, and the whole room seemed to smell of (not very nice) disinfectant/cleaner. We preferred the grounds to the actual rooms.

I would highly recommend you stay in a smaller B & B for the true Napa valley experience. You can find links and reviews at http://www.napavalley.com/. I also prefer towns further north--St. Helena or the best, Calistoga.

My husband and I stayed at the Vintage Inn this past October. The rooms are large and clean. Continental breakfast is served in the lobby or it can be delivered to the room. Maybe the decor is a bit unremarkable. On the day we checked-out, we found a bat in our room. other than that, I'd go back. You may also want to look into a property down the street from the Vintage Inn (run by the same company)that has more of a "spa" feel. I'd also like to recommend that you visit Freemark Abbey Winery. Their 2PM tour (they only give 1 tour daily) was intimate and very informative. The wine was very good too.
