DC with 5 kids, 4-11 HELP!
I am seriously (unless you all convince me otherwise!) considering a trip to the DC area at the end of June. I've done DC as an adult, and loved it. How about the kids? What's best to see/avoid? Suggestions for kid friendly hotels, sights, etc. The kids are aged 4 1/2 to 11, the youngest is a boy, the rest are girls. There will be 2 adults.
We have family/friends to visit in the area also, but are planning on spending some time in DC. I appreciate any suggestions/help. THANK YOU!

For kids: the museums! In particular, the Air&Space, Natural History, American History. You can contact Smithsonian ahead of time and they can send you "planning with kids" info. Also a Smithsonian: The National Zoo - two new pandas are active and fun to watch (sleep during the middle of the day, however).
As far as where to stay for kid-friendly, not sure, but would recommend Marriot Wardman or Omni Shoreham (near zoo, close to Metro). Definitely recommend staying close to a Metro stop.

Hi. I lived on outskirts of DC for 19 years. Plan on doing alot of walking. Take in the Air & Space, the History Museum, of course the Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington Memorials are great. You can tour the Capital and the White House although too much in 1 day may tire or bore the kids. May want to stay in VA or MD instead of right downtown. Also, might want to think about a drive up 95 to go to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Old Town Alexandria might be nice for you too! Have a great time! Let me know how it goes and say hi to my MOM! : )

Here's a quick list of things my kids like:
1. Baltimore Aquarium. Very nice place out of the heat. Dolphin show included in the price of admission. Newest exhibit is on Sea Horses, and it is really neat. During peak times, get there early. They give out timed tickets, and you don't want to have to wait hours in the afternoon to get in. Lunch can be at nearby HardRock Cafe.
2. I like Ford's Theatre, which is where Lincoln was shot. There is a nice intimate museum in the basement. The littlest one won't understand it, but it is small enough that you can finish before he/she gets bored.
3. I've heard good things about the IMAX Michael Jordan film at Natural History (?) or one of the other Smithsonians.
4. Skip the Children's museum. Really not very nice, in my opinion.
5. Skip the White House tour unless you have passes from your Congressperson. Do a search to see this issue debated.
With any luck, the weather won't be too awful.
