DC to Anapolis
Would like to take a day trip to Anapolis from DC. What's the best way to get there? Renting a car for the day? Public transportation? Once there and if using public trans, is the town walkable to get to the Naval Academy, restaurants, etc? Does the trolley take you to those locations? Thanks.

THe best (only?) transportation option is renting a car for the day. Look at Orbitz.com the sooner you reserve the cheaper the rental.
It will be an easy ride as you will be going against traffic - most traffic on Rt. 50 is commuters who live Annapoils area and work in DC.
THe Naval Acadamy and the historic section of anapolis are not walking distance from each other. You'll need to drive to the Naval Academy - easy and plenty of free parking. The historic area of Annapolis is small and walkable - just park in a public lot and leave it parked for the day. Not sure what the rates are, but will guess it's about 1/3 of parking in DC - less than $10.

Much of the historic district is down Maryland Ave just outside of the Academy's main gate. Historic homes there and the state house are within a three block area. Main St of Annapolis and the dock area are then a short walk from State Circle. Paca Gardens are within two blocks of Maryland Ave. That is an interesting tour. If you're there on a weekday and the weather is good, stop by Tecumseh court in front of Dahlgren Hall, the Midshipmen's dorm, to see the noon meal formation.

I believe that their are buses to Annapolis from the New Carrolton Metro stop on the orange line, but it may only be on weekdays because it is designed for commuters. I would check out MTA to find out more.
