Have we established whether anyone requests/needs gluten free? I am happy to accommodate with my tarts but so far have only seen your posts, basingstroke indicating you are making some GF goodies. Are you doing that out of caution or necessity?

I am unfamiliar with varnishkes but they sound delicious. As does quinoa.

I like food.

I am doing gluten free simply for those who may need it. It gives an option. Both of those dishes are also vegan, lactose free and kosher, so that should cover all bases.

Confirming that re-entry is the worst after returning from Italy last night. I might bring something Italian but will confirm once my brain is functioning again.

basingstoke, when I was growing up a friend's mother made kasha with bowties and they were delicious.

NOONISH might be better.

I need time to dust the baseboards.

I really hope all fodorites will come so we can see once and for all what you're really like.

If it's nice we can play bocce in the backyard. And try out the hammock, where I spent most of the summer.

See youse soon.

TDudette, that sounds delicious! I don't think I've ever had a whoopie pie but that sounds like a great way to start.

I'm thinking about Texas caviar and chips.

I have no idea how my thinking changed from Italy to Texas but it's basically a salad or a dip with black beans, black-eyed peas, corn, celery, etc. with a vinaigrette dressing.

Let's just hope we don't all float away by then!

Looking at the latest weather report for Saturday, I don't think we will get in too much hammock time. Indoor bocce anyone?

LouisaH - look forward to trying your caviar.

Tdudette -- Whoopee!

well, I have all my ingredients, just picked up the spring greens and goat cheese yesterday. I have my pears in a paper bag with a banana and an apple trying to perfect the ripeness for my salad.

I will be slicing tomorrow eve, and fanning around the platter. I was going to squeeze lemon juice on them or white vinegar to prevent browning. But tonight, I am going to experiment with one pear, and dip the slices in pinot grigio. Do you think that will work?!

I think santamonica would throw us out if we played bocce inside. Why am I picturing an episode of Dennis the Menace?

I have a poem about bocce and boule, I am going to see if I can find it.

Ninasdream, go ahead and use the Pinot. Even if it turns brown, no one will care.

basingstoke, that reminds me of going to wine tastings, eventually you don't care how it tastes. But I want my plates to look pretty!
I may have to eat the wine soaked pear, such are the sacrifices I make for the GTG.

ninasdream -- sounds good to me -- wine and pears, how bad can it be?

I think indoor bocce would be perfect and I'm sure santamonica would love to have his walls dented a touch.

In Bologna we had a dessert of pear poached in wine. It was heavenly.

ooh Basingstoke poached pears are one of the loveliest and simplest elegant desserts. Also the womanly shape of the pear is considered in some quarters very appealing.

It is pouring rain here, I got soaked several times on my way home.
