Day trips from Las Vegas
We will be in Las Vegas on Fri.Sat, Sun, 2 adults & will have approx. 5 hrs. of free time each day. We are looking for road trips. We have been to Freemont St. Hoover Dan, & Lake Mead. Or recommendations on flying to Calif ?

We'll be there, too! One recommendation we've had is to go to Red Rock Canyon National Park, appx. 17 miles west of the strip. I'm planning on doing a trail run there with a few of my buddies before starting each day at the casino.
I am also exploring the possiblity of visiting hot springs in the area, though i got no replies to an earlier post seeking more info on that.

You might want to consider the Valley of Fire. It's about 55 miles NE of Las Vegas, and is well-worth the trip. I've got a few pictures in an album at http://community.webshots.com/user/bookhall .

Hi,
I have been to both Red Rock Canyon and the Valley of Fire on organised bus trips ( Valley of Fire with Sierra Sam- Annie Bannanie tours and both are excellent and well worth it to see what the area around Las Vegas is like without the constant irrigation). It is hard to immagine the early settlers crossing the desert without Lake Mead at the time.
I also went up to 8000ft up Mt Charleston after RR canyon-it is alllso worthwhile-we were told in the 50's people organisec tours up the mountain to watch the nuclear tests occurring in those days.
Regards
