Day trips from Kalispell in June

I am staying in Kalispell for the first week in June and would like some idea of the day trips not to be missed.

1) Glacier National Park
2) The town of Bigfork
3) Flathead Lake - rent jetskis, boats, or take a boat tour from either Lakeside or Polson. or just drive around the whole lake. Its beautiful.

I was in Whitefish some time ago. There was a brewery you could visit.

You could visit some of Glacier, but whether or not you could drive as far as Logan Pass is doubtful. I understand that there was a big snow pack this year and the road may not be open until about the time you are there. If the road is open, great.
If not, then there are still some sights to see in Glacier.

The National Bison Range is south of the Flathead Lake, and I have been told that it is worth visiting if you are in the area.

Whitefish is a neat little town to visit. It is upscale with many quality shops to visit. (Actually, Whitefish is not so little anymore. It is a garden spot in the summer and draws many people.)

Go up into Canada. You don't need any special papers. I've always gone up to Waterton from the east side of Glacier and really enjoyed the quaint little town and scenery. I don't know what is north of Kalispell.

If the Logan Pass is open (Going to the Sun Highway) definately it is worth the trip. You must plan for a full day as it is a windy, and extremely narrow road and allow time for the turnouts for the fabulous views. You can easily cross into Canada to Waterton for an hour or so and back but then I am used to the roads and don't take the time to "view" anymore. If you are not a mountain driver, you will want to allow extra time as this road can be intimidating but it is so beautiful.

Bigfork, try the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Tickets are necessary. The playhouse is on the internet. They have four plays per year and it is well worth your time. Do book your tickets in advance. Also in Bigfork, try Showtyme for dinner or the Bigfork Inn. You could go to dinner first.

The recommendation of driving around the Flathead Lake is a good one. Take the west side road to Polson and then back towards Bigfork on the East Side.

I grew up in Bigfork and if you need any further help, please feel free to email me. I haven't lived there in a long time but still visit.

If you have the time, I would almost recommend that you travel the Logan Pass to Waterton and then spend one night in Waterton and travel back the next day. But since you only have a week....

Ditto on Big Fork. Neat place, fun to visit. I wanted to stay there this July, but a wedding party had rented the whole motel I had in mind!!

Also, Waterton is a plus and a must.
The lake ride is fabulous. (Guess what I will be doing in July when I go there, again.)
And the view south from the Prince of Wales hotel is beautiful enough to cause a gasp.

The Prince of Wales Hotel is in Waterton a small town outside of Glacier/Waterton International Peace Park. Waterton as has been mentioned in earlier postings is in Canada. It is a little village and not cheap by our Canadian Standards but still worth a visit.

If you want some help with accomodation in Waterton (or you too, Bob Brown), I have worked for people who own some hotels in Waterton. They aren't too easy too get along with but perhaps I can help you out.

Give me a PM and I will see what I can do for you

okay, first be prepared you are going to have a great time. kalispell isn't that great so you'll want things to do.
go to Bigfork for sure - it is a great kind of artsy town - great restaurants, shops, bars.
go hiking in the bob marshall wilderness area - there is an awesome and not too hard hike to crater lake that is spectacular.
you could go white water rafting down in polson - there are a number of outfitters.
i've heard that big mountain in whitefish has some great hiking and mountain biking trails.
you will, of course, do going to the sun road and as much of glacier that you can - it is spectacular!! try to hike up to one of the mountain retreats - ask the rangers about it when you get there.
last summer we drove over to watertown for the first time - pretty drive and nice little city - you would probably want to spend the night though.
there is a brunch cruise along flathead lake that i've heard is fun.
rent a boat and tour flathead - it is stunning.
have a great time - you're visting god's country....
