Dear Travelers,
Thank you yet again for your kind and VERY helpful answers!!! We look forward to the jazz clubs and very well might try the dance "scene". If it's a clear day may head to Rainer. If less optimal I think that the ferry rides with rental car will win out. and, Polly, we will make it to Kerry Park. Thanks!
Less then 24 hrs before we leave but I'll be checking the site several more times (I do like the cable internet service). Any more last minute suggestions for sites/restraurants feel free to post them.
All the Best,
Geoff

RE/Rainier on a cloudy day - DON'T LET THAT STOP YOU!
We visited Seattle for three days last summer. Rainier was our planned destination for Sunday, regardless of the weather. As we drove South from Seattle, I was getting bummed because it was so overcast we couldn't see the Mt. at all.
However, as we ascended the road leading up to it (we mistakenly entered from the North side, but still had wonderful views and hiking trails), we literally drove THROUGH the clouds and came out above them. It was beautifully sunny up there and visibility was incredible.
I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this!

Thought of another thing...if you do the ferry and go to Whidbey Island, go up to Deception Pass State Park. Fun beaches to walk...cold, but thats the PNW
Also, across HWY 20 from the entrance to the park...take that road (sorry, don't know the name of it)...there is a sign that says to Cornet Bay. Go all the way to the end and when you reach the park keep on driving to the tiny parking lot. That beach has tons of shells and usually noone else is there. Coupeville and Langely are nice little towns on the island to stop in for lunch and/or shopping.

Regarding Susan's post about the clouds that is really more apt to happen in the summer (clear on top, cloudy below) but in the fall and winter Rainier has it's own weather patterns and they arn't good.
Here is the site for Rainier weather forecast we use (my boyfriend climbs it) that you can check (or have the hotel check it for you)
