Day parking near Tarrytown train station?
On our way from Vt to NC, we'd like to stop and take a day in Manhattan. Since our preference is to use Tappan Zee bridge in early morning to head south, we thought possibly it would make sense to stay in Tarrytown for 2 nights and take the train into the city. However, it doesn't look like there's any (affordable) motels within walking distance of the station, and if memory serves, there's precious little parking near any of the Hudson Valley stations.
Is my memory correct? Or would it be possible for us to find parking space from, say, 9 am to 8-9 pm, somewhere not far from the station. (A long 30-min. walk might be fine in the morning but not when we get back in the evening after walking all over NYC).
Is there a better place than Tarrytown to do this -- elsewhere further up or down the Hudson, or perhaps even on the CT side (Greenwich?) or somewhere else in apron area (Rye, White Plains, etc.)?
Thanks!

I don't know Tarrytown, but you could stay a little further north where I know there is more parking. Beacon, New Hamburg, and Poughkeepie all have good sized parking lots lots. Beacon 1400, New Hamburg 800, POK 1100.
You could take the Newburgh Beacon Bridge (I-84) instead of the TZB and it'd be a wash overall driving time VT to NC.
Beacon is the closest to I84. There are a bunch of chain hotels at Exit 13, Fishkill/Rt 9, just about 10min drive from the Beacon station.

If you are driving down I-87/NYS Thruway, then you could also stay at a chain motel in Newburgh, then ferry, bus or drive over to Beacon RR station to catch the train. I think both ferry and bus are timed to match the trains but I don't know specifics.

As far as I remember, none of the hotels in Tarrytown are walking distance to the train, but some (Doubletree?) may offer free shuttle service to the station.
I don't think any of the hotels there are cheap, but what is you actual budget?

You could try White Plains. They have a large lot there and I think at least some of the spots are day meters or something where you don't need a permit. There are a number of hotels on Route 119 near the Tappan Zee (in Tarrytown), but you just go east to White Plains for the train rather than to the Tarrytown lot.

There are several choices in Tarrytown including:
Marriott
Courtyard by Marriott
Doubletree
Springhill Suites
Sheraton
However, I'm not sure of their prices, nor whether they provide free shuttle service to the station. I'd also check to see if taxis are waiting at the station at night to take you back to the hotel. That last itme could be a problem at all the stations you could consider.

Thank you all. Still working on it.... White Plains option makes some sense, but may still try the Tarrytown version (will talk to places by phone and ask re: train station arrangements).

Doubletree and I think Sheraton and Hampton Inn say they have shuttles within a certain mileage so you'd have to call to verify if the train station is covered. Some of them market themselves as less expensive places to stay when you visit NYC, so I think it would likely be included.

Today, while on the train that goes to Tarrytown late this afternoon I overheard a nearby passsenger call her hotel to arrange for the shuttle to pick her up. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find out which hotel. But, at least you know that a pickup from the train station is a definite possibility. One question I would definitely ask once you learn that the hotel has shuttle is what hours this service is available.
