Day in Manhatten alone
Hi,
My husband and I will be in Manhatten for 3 days. I have been there many times for business. My husband will be alone one day while I am at a meeting, what should he do? I was thinking having him take a Hop ON/OFF bus tour, (Big Apple?). Is that a good idea?. We are staying near Times Square, do you know where he could catch the bus? How much is it? Another idea is for him to go to Wall Street. What is there all to see? Do you have any other suggestions.
Together, I plan on seeing the Statue of Liberty and walking around 5th ave/Central Park. And going to the MOMA.
Thanks for you help!

Hi Terri,
I don't know that Big Apple tours will be up and running when you are here so you may want to check on Gray Line.
(Big Apple was the bus company involved in an accident where a man was killed and I think they might not be allowed to operate at this time).
I pass by the Gray line ticket people on the way to work on 5th Ave. and Central Park South. They are usually in the area in front of the Plaza and are always looking for people to round up for a tour.
He could also head to the Empire State Building or the World Trade Center if he heads down to the Wall St. area.
The Met uptown would certainly be an option. (You don't have to pay the full admission - it's just a "suggested" price).
There is always SOHO or Little Italy too!
Go to Ferrarra's for some pastry and espresso!
Enjoy!

Have him take the subway down to Wall St. & do the tour of NYSE. From there he can go to across the St. and see where George Washington was inaugurated. Then it's leisurely stroll to World Trade center & go to the top. In my not so humble opinion, it's far more spectacular than the Empire State building. Then depending on time, he can take the subway back to Chinatown and stop to by you a fake Guicci or Armani watch and/or hand bag. I bought my mother-n-law a Versace scarf (faux)there and she still thinks it real. Ha!

Dear Teri:
I too travel occasionally to New York on business and my husband often joins me there.
One of his favorite tours was at the Naval Museum. I can't remember the specific location although I remember it's on the westside, but there is an aircraft carrier (I think the New Jersey) and a submarine to tour. He really enjoys military history, and we spent at least 4 hours there. I'm sure if he had been on his own, he would have spent the entire day. You could check Fodor's New York for details.

I work on Wall Street and one of the most important pieces of advice is that if you go to Wall/Stock exchange/Battery Park is to go on a weekday. It is busy/hustle and bustle but it is DEAD on weekends. When I go to work on a weekend, I see the tourists coming to see the closed exchange and just walk around wondering what the big deal is. My building faces the exchange and on some busy days I wish that all tourists would come on weekends but all the food places are closed and it is like whistling in a graveyard. Times Sq is open 24/7 and the Village also but you have to plan to go to places at the right time of day/week. Have a great time.
