Be sure to use the direct website and not one of the resellers for live pricing and availability

For Yosemite you can start here

I think you're right that they must be releasing blocks of rooms. Maybe they released more tent cabins after you checked.

Janis J, Three Rivers might be a nicer place, but if they are coming from Yosemite it might not work out very well. Also there is a significant road construction zone coming in from the south. This kind of thing is why people need to check the park websites and not just go on some general past knowledge.

>>but if they are coming from Yosemite it might not work out very well.Sanger!.

There is construction on almost every road in the Sierras (including 41 in/out of Yosemite BTW) - we had a rough winter. But even w/ a worst case hour's delay coming in from 3 Rivers it would be a shorter drive than from Sanger

Does anyone know how to get ahold of a moderator who might be able to pass on message to OP to check this thread? I want her to know that I'm holding two reservations for her...

Have you posted any way for her to contact you directly? Like an email address?

I imagine she is working on the entire itinerary. I wonder if Tioga pass will open by late July?

I sent her my e-mail address in the post where I told her I'd found the rooms for her. thanks for keeping it topped.

I think Tioga Pass is and will stay pretty iffy for a while. I have a friend who works at Yosemite who I'll ask. I know that the High Sierra Camps have been cancelled for the entire season, but the road I would think there is more hope for.

I just (to my disappointment) found out the Road-to-the-Sun in Glacier National Park is only partially open. We plan to drive it next Thursday. We are still hopeful but today and tomorrow feature thunderstorms here in Wyoming.

Sorry if I wasn't clear--we are from Bay Area, but are currently in Grand Tetons National Park on our way tomorrow first to the Big Sky Country in Montana and 4 days later to Glacier national park for a week.

Apparently Tioga Pass is open! That opens up the option to use the lodging around Mammoth Mountain, Lee Vining, etc. Especially if their itinerary takes them out to the east after Yosemite.

Also try Stony Creek if none of the Delaware North properties at SEKI are available https://www.sequoia-kingscanyon.com/...reeklodge.html It's on the Generals Highway between Kings Canyon and Sequoia and is convenient for both. If that doesn't work, there are some motels around Squaw Valley/Dunlap that would be closer than Sanger. Entering through the Big Stump entrance from 180 is actually more central for visiting the different parts of SEKI particularly if you plan to drive to the bottom of Kings Canyon. It's a very long drive from Three Rivers to the canyon made longer by current road construction.

cmstraf, the GTTS Rd opened today!

I'm reading through all of the comments and you all are amazing ,,, we are going into the reservation site now and will bookmark and try many times each day.

I would love to get out of Sonora and stay within the park(s)

Thanks again .. if y'all ever need advice for SE Virginia, please let me know!

Cmstraf -- we leave CA and head to Zion, Bryce, a week in Jackson WY and then 4-5 days in Montana (no plans yet) before flying back home. We'll be chasing you!

One more questions since you all are so helpful (and actually know the area, unlike us).

Wherever we sleep the night of the 27th should be somewhat directionally smart in terms of hitting Sequoia/Kings Canyon. I think Sander is west and towards Fresno. We will look in Sequoia (thanks for suggestions).

28th and 29th in Sequoia but need to leave early on 30th to head to Zion, which I think will be a very long drive. If any of you have suggestions on whether we should stay in 2 different locations, please let me know.

We thought 4 weeks would be good ... oh how little I knew!

Cheers -

Here is another lodging option for Sequoia/Kings

Montecito Sequoia Lodge (FS permittee)
All year. Reservations 1-800-227-9900; 1-559-565
3388; www.mslodge.com. On Generals Hwy 9 miles
south of Grant Grove. Cabins, buffet restaurant,
hotel (wi-fi), seasonal & children’s activities.

Despite what janisj said, it makes more sense to come in from 180 than to drive the extra hours south to Three Rivers just to add more drive time the next day. If you can find something closer than Sanger, along that same route that would be better.

Also, you might consider switching up the order (Yosemite last if that gets you better accomodations. Now that Tioga Pass is open, you can exit across the Sierra that way instead of driving south to go around via Bakersfield and Barstow..

One of the reasons I'd suggest Yosemite last and then coming out Tioga Pass is that you could stay, for example in Bishop for your final Yosemite night after seeing Tuolumne Meadows and then the next day it's 7 hours to Springdale (long but doable). It's a beautiful drive although some people get nervous is they haven't done much mountain driving. I would want to do the whole drive in daylight since it's so scenic. Bishop has fairly affordable lodging options and the famous Erik Schat's Bakkery.

You can make the next day more interesting by going via Death Valley if you're confident in your rental car. We have done it in midsummer, you leave very early and don't get out of the car other than to take the photo next to the thermometer at the visitor center. It's more scenic than going across the Nevada desert.

If you want to go that way I'd recommend printing out this map and taking the Shortest or Easiest Routes indicated. In mid summer I don't take the Most Scenic Route (Badwater is just too hot and I've seen it before).

https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvis...as%20Vegas.pdf

If you are going to do Sequoia last, then your midway stop is probably Barstow (if you think Sanger is bad, wait til you see Barstow). If you can get out of Sequoia by dusk it's an easy drive at night. From Barstow, Springdale is about 5 hours.

Hi Everyone -- -Just cancelled our place in Sonora and have booked a cabin inside Yosemite in Foresta, which seems to be about a 30 min ride to the valley. They were the only days available within a 2 month period! A bit expensive but I think will be worth it.

Now that we have the long commute taken care of, if any of you have suggestions of things not to miss, I would love them.

A bit nervous about these mountains but here we come!
