Other, I just saw this article and thought of your daughter's predicament. Unfortunately it doesn't hold much good news, but may be informative nonetheless...
Good luck to her for her travels - and to you for a good night's sleep!!

Too much compassion and empathy is not something one can control. It does cause sleepless nights but also immense amounts of happiness when the sun shines.
This is valid for a baby gull with one wing broken which we tried to save taking it to a vet and paying for its operation yesterday, as well as a family member.
we also carry cat and dog food in the trunk of our car when we go driving in Turkey, to feed the feral but friendly cats and dogs we see in towns and villages, even at roadside rest stops. Some dogs will wait for us before they attack the food and one even took me to see her new born puppies under some bushes, before she would eat.
Also, i am 66 and my wife is almost 52 and we still love to protect each other and get concerned if one of us is late.
Neurotic?, dependent?, senile?
Both daughters have lived away from us since age 17 in the United States and have taken care of all their needs. And we loved to share all with them.
By the way, the drugs are for post operative traumatic anxiety after my cardio-thoracic surgery, and a similar reason in case of my wife.

ahmet...I've been following this once I saw it was your post. I imagine Adu is doing the same..probably colduphere, too...no time for any of or usual wise a$$ remarks....I'll email you in a minute so we can keep in touch on this horrendous situation.
Pop another pill in the meantime. Are these the ones you bought from that seedy looking guy standing next to the Taksim statue? (there I go again)

Thanks Tower (of strength, when needed)
Adu is busy gloating about his photograph (the left profile) selected for a competition of mugshots. I doubt Colduphere can move until the Spring thaw sets in.
No news yet, but the flight tracker sites do not show cancellations of flights from OHare, yet also show very few as having departed.
What happens if she does not fly and cannot recover her luggage? Will they be turning endlessly on an otherwise empty carousel and then just sitting forlorn for a few days before someone new adopts them?

Just wanted to say good luck to you and your daughter. This kind of delay is so annoying. It has happened to me a couple of times and what bothered me most was lack of information.
As for luggage, I don't think there are any rules. One time I was stuck overnight in ORD, they refused to give us our luggage and said everything was in a locker and couldn't be accessed.
The only "good" part is that usually international flights have priority.

thanks ggreen. I have checked it, and even if she does not need it, it is very useful information.
things livened up for a while and then subsided again into a stupor.
We called what we thought was the Chicago sales office, were told that tonight's flight was cancelled and that she should go ahead and recover her luggage. they also changed her reservation to tomorrow's flight.
So we told her to hightail it to the airport, get reimbursed for the hotel, put luggage into locker and take possible train back home.
She called half an hour later that she was at the THY desk, the flight was on, check in would start 5:30PM, that there was no place to sit and she was sort of sitting in front of the check-in and would do so for the next three hours, because of our wrong information, instead of watching TV in her suit at IC. Now, she may also have to cope with the changed reservation also.
My wife rather irately called the sales office, i got mad at older daughter who just gave us instructions without assisting in anyway, and the guy on the phone kept on trying to convince Eser that the flight was really cancelled.
Finally the voice blurted out that he was talking from a call center in Turkey (could easily have been India) and that he had no information from OHare.
This reminded us very much of how we spent two extra days in Essex when we were hit by the Icelandic ash cloud and was told possibly by the same guy that all flights were cancelled or full. After two days of accepting the bad news, we had just driven to Stansted to discover that the noon flight was about to leave only three quarters full.
The situation will unravel actually if and when the plane takes of about 9:44PM from the runway.
Currently, i am about to chew a combination of Pepcid AC and a
Rennie, since the stress hit the digestive system this time.

clark, that's what I was wondering, too. The only time I've ever heard of the airline reimbursing for hotel for a weather delay, was when my son told United in DC that if there was a chance of a delay that would cause him to miss his connection in Chicago, to "tell him now because he'd stay home in DC". They knew there was no way for him to make his connection, but put him on the flight anyway. He made enough of an issue of it that they did pay for a night at the Westin O'Hare!

She boarded at 20:44 and Flight Tracker says the plane took of at 22:40.
They gave her a free CIP lounge pass at check in.
there were ten others with the same predicament, the night before, who could not follow Ceylan to the IC shuttle, and about an hour later they were taken by a THY employee to the Hilton and all their expenses were paid. Ceylan was told that some of her hotel costs will be reimbursed later. I will report her arrival also, in about eleven hours.
i slept better but i think my wife continued murdering swine most of the night by shooting at them with her sling which threw screaming birds.
Adu, thanks for the offer. The whole family will take a rain check on that.

Hello, otherchelebi, checking in to see how things were going and I am so happy to read that your daughter is on the plane! I can imagine how relieved you and your wife must be of course. And you won't get any arguement from me regarding your description of being a parent, lol. By the way, you will find you have the same stresses when you two become grandparents. Take good care!

We are home!!! Ceylan is visiting her aunt (my sister, 76 who lives in the flat below ours) who has apparently just caught pneumonia.
The plane landed only 20 minutes late but the traffic back was horrendous and we could arrive only five minutes ago. i rushed to the PC to give the good news
My heart felt thanks to all of you who were so helpful in more than one way.
See you on a more laid back thread or another one with a happy ending. And do come to visit my threads on Turkey forums and Fodors Lounge.
PS. You are also all qualified for my alternative contest, if you ever make it to Istanbul.
