Dallas, Fort Worth or Houston for a 2 night stopover
Hi All
I'm planning a trip to the US next year with hubby and I'm trying to work out which city to fly into. Our choices are Dallas, Fort Worth or Houston.
We'll be flying in from Perth, Australia. We're not massive fans of big cities (especially after a long haul flight, which is why I thought it would be worth considering Fort Worth - we could just drive them once we land). We're only planning to spend 2-3 nights before heading to New Orleans. If we end up going Dallas or Fort Worth, I'd love a suggestion as a half-way stopover for a night on the way to New Orleans.
Happy to hear suggestions on things to do.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated!
Thanks. Rellie.

My vote is Ft. Worth. You'd be flying into DFW (Dallas-Ft. Worth) airport, I am sure. You could spend a day at the Stockyards, and there are several hotels there as well. https://www.fortworthstockyards.org/

Yes, you could easily spend 2 or 3 days in Fort Worth - there's plenty of things to see/do other than the Stockyards. A simple google search of "Things to do in Fort Worth" or "Fort Worth tourist Attractions" will bring up a whole host of suggestions. If you have a rental car you can also spend some of your time in Dallas - the two cities are only 35 miles apart (about a 40 minute drive). FYI - DFW airport is exactly midway between the two cities.
And by the way, although Fort Worth boundaries cover some 350 sq. miles (most of that is residential suburbs) it is definitely NOT a "big city" - you can walk from one end of the downtown area to the other in under 15 minutes.
It's about a 9 hour drive from Fort Worth to New Orleans and it's just about all Interstate Highway driving. There's not much in the way of interesting towns and/or "tourist attractions" on the route except a number of State and National Parks and Forest Preserves that would qualify as must see stopping points. Most people either drive the entire distance in one day or if making a two day trip stop at the most convenient roadside motel (almost every major hotel chain will have locations spread out at major exits along the highway). You can use Google Maps or Mapquest to plot out your route then decide whether you want to drive straight through or stop someplace for the night. As mentioned, you'll find motels at almost every exit along the Interstate so you can just about find accommodations anytime you want to stop. There will also be plenty of places you can get something to eat and get gas at the exits.

On your drive when you need to stop for gas, make it Buc'ee's. Best bathrooms for sure.
