Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Lodging
Staying over at DFW for the night between flights.
Looking for lodging. Nothing special. Just clean and ok.
Would be good if there was something within walking distance (restaurant, mall, etc). But ok if not.
Ideas?
Thanks.

I don't think I can answer your question, but I can share a bit.
The most convenient hotel is the Hyatt on site, but I have never stayed there. It will be pricey.
I have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on Valley View Lane several times. There are several other hotels at this location, but not much else. Very good shuttle service, too.
I would definitely avoid the properties on John Carpenter Freeway like the Hawthorn, La Quinta and Holiday Inn. These properties back up to the DFW FedEx truck yard which is very active all night banging around, playing tunes on air horns, etc. Voice of experience here.
I have also gone as far as the Doubletree Club on Luna Road. But, again, there is nothing nearby.

We stay at the Hyatt on airport grounds often for international flights. Comfy beds and frequent shuttle to the airport. You are close to chain restaurants by cab which I recommend over the typical hotel bar and restaurant.
We've stayed at others on John Carpenter Freeway which are much cheaper but they are hit and miss on the quality level.

Walking distance in these parts is virtually non-existant, though ChristieP shares a very good recommendation. Not sure how pedestrian-friendly the roads are between the hotels and the mall/restaurants, as I've never seen anyone on foot in the area, but that is your best bet.

Here's a link with DFW restaurants. Some may be open late: http://www.dfwairport.com/shops/find...pe=restaurants
My first choice would be the new Hyatt (it's really nice) on the airport grounds and order room service. Second choice would be one of the Grapevine Mills hotels like Hyatt Place or Marriott Residence Inn.
Happy travels. :0)

Grand Hyatt DFW is the name of the hotel that is on the airport property. I don't remember how pricey it was, but you couldn't ask for easier access. The walls are very noise cancelling, so you can get a good nights sleep without hearing the airplanes. I think remember that they have their on entrance(security), so if you have your boarding pass the line through security is normally non-exist.
The fast airport tram makes it easy to get to the hotel from any of the terminals.
Although a little bit more money than their restaurants outside the airport, you might consider Pappadeax's or Pappasito's. DFW has fantastic food, IMOP.
I do want to make sure that this is DFW and not DAL???
Grapevine has a lot of different places to eat and stay if you want to go just a little ways from the airport. I personally don't like Grapevine Mall much. Since you are arriving after 8, I would probably just go with the Hyatt in the airport unless it was just super expensive. This way you don't even have to mess with a shuttle.

We stay at the DFW Grand Hyatt every time we have an early morning departure. It's a very nice hotel with very comfortable 9and quiet) rooms. As others have said access to the terminals is very easy - just take the down the escalator and depending on the time of day you can either use the TSA checkpoint at the bottom or if it's real early in the AM the TSA checkpoint by the AA ticket counters (a 1 minute walk). Once inside (terminal D) you can take the Air Tram to any of the other terminals without leaving the secure area.
The restaurant at the Hyatt is quite good but you can also request a "security pass" to enter the main portion of Terminal D where you'll have a choice of no less than 9 or 10 good restaurants plus the usual number of snack shops and fast food vendors. Getting a "Security Pass" takes a few minutes as you'll have to wait for a TSA agent to come to the hotel and fill out some paperwork - you'll need to present photo I.D.'s.

The Grand Hyatt (new) and the Hyatt Regency (older) are both on airport property. If you don't have an extremely early a.m. flight the next morning, there are many nearby offsite hotels.
South of airport: Embassy Suites, Park Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Marriott Courtyard, La Quinta. Most of these hotels have shuttles that will take you to these area eateries. Restaurants "within walking distance" are Red Lobster, Aspen Creek (i think this is like Bennigans), McDonalds, Denny's; a little further walk you could eat at Spring Creek BBQ, Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden, El Fenix Mexican, Applebee's, Chili's.
North of airport: Westin, Fairfield, Comfort Suites -- these seem to be more motel-like than those at the south end, and there are NO restaurants nearby, except for Whataburger.

Comfort Inn south had pretty good reviews and included breakfast at about $80.
The Grand Hyatt over Terminal D (the one I arrive at and depart from) is 113. (Sr rate excl breakfast).
I figure we'll save a lot of shuttle time stayng at the Grand Hyatt. Especially in the morning.
That's what I went with.
Thanks for the responses.
