Crown Plaza or Marriott in Richmond

I have to go to Richmond for work in April. Has anyone stayed at these hotels? I want to stay near restaurants and have places to go at night after work. Any suggestions? Ideas for where to go after work will be appreciated. Thanks.

In what area of the city will you be working? Will your employer foot the bill for your hotel? Will you have a car? If you're paying for the hotel, check biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com to learn how to bid on PriceLine for a hotel. Richmond is a good PL city. We stayed at the Sheraton on W. Broad St. (not in city center) for $50/night in September.

My employer will be paying for the hotel. I will not have a car. The Marriott I was looking at was at 500 East Broad Street in Richmond, VA

Have stayed at the Richmond Marriott. It was very nice.Good restaurant, nice pool. Front reception told us we were not in a good area of town so we never went out to dinner. I would return if driving through again.

Neither of those hotels is very well situated for walking to restaurants or other nightlife - you'd likely feel boxed in, or have to cab it to get anywhere at night. I'd recommend the Omni Hotel. It is comparable in quality to the Marriott, but located in "Shockoe Slip", which is a really nice area -- lots of good shops, restaurants, and nightlife right there, and very safe at night. It is not too far from the hotels you mentioned (maybe 8 blocks from Crowne Plaza and 15 from Marriott) but would be a world of difference for nighttime options.
