Crescent City, CA to Utah

My friends and I are doing a roadtrip to the Northwest in May. We live in Southern Utah in St. George. Mapquest has told us the best way to get from Crescent City on the coast back is through California down through Vegas. It does seem more direct, but we would rather not have tons of traffic, especially when we'll be driving through the entire state nearly. Should we cut through Reno down I-80 and down from Salt Lake City? We also have family we could stay with for free for a night and then drive down to St. George (about 5 hours). What do you think?

Crescent City California to St George Utah! I do not see that request too often. This is the quickest way to Reno and 80. 101 south to 20, 20 west via Grass valley and Nevada City to 80, Then I think I would try this route 80 west to 50, 50 west to 21, 21 south to 130, 130 south to 15. 15 east to St George. Sounds like a fun trip.

Have Fun

I would rather have dental surgery than drive SR 20 again.

If time is not an impediment, I'd go back down to Eureka then take SR 299 through the Trinity Alps over to Redding, then SR 44 through Lassen Park and make your way down to I-80 that way. Not very speedy, but more entertaining (IMO.)

If we were to go down 101 and on 20 how long would it take to get to Reno? How much of it is devided highway? Mapquest suggested 199 through Oregon, down I-5, then 89, 44, 395. They estimate about 7 hours. How much of that route would be devided? I'm sure it's pretty much inevidable.

Could we go through California to St. George? Would that be faster with more direct roads? I just don't know!

From Crescent City I would go down the coast to 299 to Redding. From Redding I would go to Susanville and from there drop down to Reno usin US 395. From Reno I would go to Fallon, then down US 95 to Tonopah, US 6 to Warm Springs, SR 375 to US 93, US 93 to Panaca, SR319 to Utah SR 18 to St. George.

Stop by a Wal*Mart and buy a 2007 Rand McNally Road Atlas. For $5.97 it is well worth the $$ and effort.

We decided that we are going to go through Salt Lake. What if we went through Winnemucca, Nevada and missed Reno completely? Our first day would probably be around 10 1/2 hours. It would take off almost 80 miles going through Winnemucca. Would that be best? If we were to take 199 and then 140...
