>>I wonder what American HS students would score on this...<<

I just asked my 15 yo to take the test and she got a 90%.

Missed the # of Supreme Court justices and the one on presidential eligibility requirements. Guessed correctly on the INS form number.

90 for me; also missed the form name, and made one stupid mistake: I said 10 SC justices instead of 9.

The only one I missed was the form. ( I picked "petition" rather than "application".) And why would I know that? Not something you need to know if you're a citizen by virtue of birth.

Ditto, CAPH52 - 95%. Petition sounded more "official" lol.

I am a lawyer and I found some of the questions, particularly in the study guide to be really picayune. Yes, the Electoral College TECHNICALLY elects the President. Does that mean they are failing applicants who say the PEOPLE elect the President?

I consider knowing the number of a form to prove absolutely nothing about the qualities needed for a new citizen.

Ha ha!

The IRS doesn't really care about your qualities to be a citizen or even if you are a citizen at all; they just want every single penny of the taxes you owe.

Aileron- although the question about who elects the President was not one of the 20 questions, I don't think there is anything technical about the correct answer. If the people elected presidents, Al Gore would have been elected in 2000, no recounts, no hanging chads. But that did not happen.

The Fodorites have done well on this quiz, but there are plenty of people who do not know how the government works, its origins or other historical information. Perhaps it is a picayune point to state that the elctoral college elects the president rather than the people, but I think it shows respect for our nation and our countrymen and women to be accurate when such matters are discussed.

Happy July 4 to all. Let freedom ring!
