Costco in Maui

I am not a member of Costco (the nearest store is 100 miles from me) Would it be worth it to join? How much is the membership fee?
We will be spending a week in Maui and 6 days on the Big Island. Family of four - we plan on eating breakfast and either lunch or dinner each day at our condo (or pack a picnic). Would I be better off just buying groceries at Safeway?

Do you normally shop for a weeks worth of groceries at a wharehouse store or buy foods in bulk? I'd say you probably don't need to go to Costco. Soft drinks are more expensive there than at the grocery store and you can buy beer and wine at Longs. Membership is $45.

Basic membership is $45. If the only reason you are thinking of joining is for the two week vacation...don't.
Most food items are sold in such large quantities that you will have a lot of what you bought left at the end which you will have to dispose of, or eat until you are totally sick of it.

There's no reason to join and spend $45 just for two weeks of vacation. Most of the quantities are huge and personally, Costco is not the kind of screaming urban zoo I'd like to spend any time at on a tropical vacation. And they don't give you grocery bags either, well, in L.A. they don't anyway.

I doubt you would save much for such a short time interval after the membership fee is paid. However we have used their travel club in the past and have used it this yr. as well for our BI vacation and we have saved alot. Get the membership if you use it regularly or for a big purchase such as an appliance, TV, etc.
