Cooperstown, NY
We're thinking of spending a couple of nights in Cooperstown in August. Can anyone recommend lodging? I'd prefer something small over a hotel, but probably not a traditional type B&B. The room has to be private and have it's own bathroom. We'd rather be outside of town but I was there once and remember parking and driving being a problem. Is there a place to park and take a shuttle or bus into the town, or am I confusing that with someplace else? We won't go over $200 a night and we're also open to a nice motel type place. Thanks for any help and advice.

We stayed at the Inn at Cooperstown about 8 years ago. It was very nice and, from what I recall, reasoanbly priced. I would say it is somewhere between a B&B and small hotel. Probably about 15 rooms. Within walking distance to all Cooperstown attractions & dining. Accomodating to families. We brought our 2-year old. No problems.

We were in Cooperstown in October with our kids. Stayed at the brand new Howard Johnsons 5 miles outside town which is great for a family (indoor pool, large suites, free breakfast) but I don't think this is what you are looking for. Saw lots of small inns and b&b's but can't answer as far as quality.
What I can say is that yes, there are parking lots everywheree outside town where you can take the free shuttle into town due to limited parking in town. These shuttle lots are well marked and easy to find even if you are not looking for them. We did not need to use the shuttles because October is very quiet there and parking in town was no problem.

We stayed at the Lake Front Motel (10 Fair St., Cooperstown). It is in Cooperstown, about a block from the Hall of Fame, but right on lake Ostego. It was not fancy, but very clean - private rooms with your own bath. They had a little restaurant attached to the motel with very good food very reasonably priced. I thought this place was a great bargain!
