coney island

Going to "Big Apple" in June. Would 4 middle aged women enjoy Coney Island?

Alas, the glory days of Coney Island are long past. Unless there is some connection for you I'm not sure the trek would be worth it. You might want to look at this site, one of the best on Coney Island http//naid.sppsr.ucla.edu/coneyisland

Not likely to find much, if anything, of interest except for the Aquarium.

If you like to people watch it might be worth it, and you can buy beer and hot dogs everywhere. I love it.

If you are going from Manhattan, it's just too much effort for what you get. You can walk along the Boardwalk or walk in the sand (if it's not a weekend) but not much else there. The weekends get very crowded. Unfortunately it has become rather dilapidated.

If you go you can ride the Cyclone rollercoaster and and eat Nathans franks.

You don't say where you are from. I haven't been there in about 20 years but from what I remember, some might feel a might unsafe there.

It, like me, you grew up hearing about Coney Island from NY relatives or saw it used a lot in movies you would probably enjoy seeing it for the first time - as I did last year. It's no Disney World or even Six Flags but obviously a place many people still attend.

As a previous poster stated - if you're staying in Manhattan it might be a litte bit out of your way. But, you can walk around awhile, then take a very short subway or bus ride to Brighton Beach for a very Russian/Middle Eastern feel to New York. Many signs are in Russian - Even the video store I saw had nothing but Russian titles. Russian bakeries, shops, eateries are everywhere. I really enjoyed the place.

Please don't bother with Coney Island. I grew up in the area and recently visited for the first time in 25 years and was horrified at how dumpy and seemingly unsafe it was. Don't waste your time!
