Columbus Ave@Broadway Red light district???

We have reservations at the Royal Pacific Motor Inn in SF. The hotel is located on Broadway between Grant and Stockton. Every travel book I read now mentions a red light/strip joint area in this vicinity. Is this an issue for a family ? I already cancelled a reservation at a Best Western on 7th near Market because of the XXX rated stores etc. Should I cancel again? I was hoping to stay somewhere in North Beach. Are any of the typical chains located on Lombard Street toward North Beach? Any suggestions? Thanks for advice. I have reserached quite a few travel sites that list all the hotels in the area. Unfortunately, this aspect of location is not included!!

yes, this area has several adult bars but is also a very good location for exploring north beach. it's a safer area than 7th and market.

You have a choice here. You can stay in the Wharf area at one of the many national chains (Days Inn, Travel Lodge, Hyatt, Ramada, Howard Johnsons) which are good for children many with pools and kids stay free in some, and while a bit honky tonk, the kids love being near Pier 39.Many also include free parking which is worth a lot in downtown SF. Otherwise, farther over west on Lombard are the Cow Hollow Motor Inn, Chelsea Motor Inn or Coventry Motor Inn all quite safe and family oriented. In North Beach is the San Remo Hotel(415-776-8688) which is a wonderful old turn of the century restored mansion on Mason near the cable car turn around. You might not have your own bathroom, but you might give them a call to see what they can offer a family group. You are certainly safer on Broadway than 7th and Market which is depressing as well as not where you'd want to take your kids. One of the hottest new restaurants has just opened there, but I'm not sure it's an area for kids.

I think this was already answered on a different thread.
