Colorado Fall Color Update?

I'm leaving on Oct. 6th for a nine CO driving/hiking trip. Exact itinerary is still up in the air but we are planning to do a loop from Denver that includes Rocky Mountain National Park, Maroon Bells, Black Canyon at Gunnison, Mesa Verde and Great Sand Dunes.

Anyone have a recent fall leaf report?

The aspens have been turning in the Winter Park area since the middle of Sept. Leaves are beginning to fall off now. You will be lucky to see much color Oct 6.

We were in Denver, Breckenridge, Pikes Peak, Rocky Mts over a week ago and color was peaking then (just gorgeous). We heard it peaked early this year.

Maybe a few leaves will still hang on for you?!

A friend posted pictures from Vail yesterday. The colors are still outstanding. Good luck!

RMNP was perfect this weekend with some fresh snow on the Longs Peak and the Continental Divide, and aspen at peak colors. A weak cold front is coming through on Wednesday night, which could change things, but hopefully some color will still be there for you next week.

Have a great trip.

You should be asking for a snow report. You might find a few spots for color but it is over. Any type of front with wind will take most of the leaves off the trees, You need to be prepared for snow and cold weather if hiking. Especially in central Colorado.

Thanks, everyone. We are looking forward to a great trip--leaves or not;snow or not.

Come prepared. The first snow of the season is forecast for Denver this weekend. It will be light however the mountains will be heavier.
