In Minneapolis, we have plenty of cold winter days. But it is hardly a surprise. If it is too cold, it is a good day to kill half the day at a health club, and then rent some movies and snuggle in for the evening.
But the coldest I've ever felt was Chicago on a late December night. The moist cold coming off the lakes, and whipping through the downtown buildings, was amazing. It was probably no colder than 10 degrees, but it felt bone-chilling.

The winter of '99 in Chicago. I had recently moved from FL and didn't really know how to live in that cold of an enviroment. Nothing brings tears like the wind off of Lake Michigan. I used to take pictures of the clock on Michigan Ave because my mom wouldn't believe me when I told her how cold it was.

Coldest place ever for me? Crossing Broadway two days ago in NYC, with the wind whipping and temps in the 20's.
For an old dude from Houston, it was downright freeezing...!
But, dang, what a great city! Trip report forthcoming...
