Coffee prep. while traveling--help !!!!!

I REALLY like a cup of coffee first thing in the morning-some rooms have coffee pots and thats fine, however I take my own special grind coffee from home.
If room does not have coffee pot "sometimes" one can be brought to your room. The Mayflower Hotel in Seattle had a tray with coffee and tea set out by the elevator on each floor..
So you could get your morning fix and not have to go to the lobby...
Otherwise, the only alternative is room service--the charge for a pot of coffee is out of reason for me. ($15 in New York)
So now what???
So far I have used the "one cup cone" with filter
ie. heat the water with the electric plug in coil apparatus. Fairly convenient
Do not like the "coffee"bags (like tea bags) as the coffee tastes stale
Are there any coffee lovers out there that have other methods that they use???

I ditto the above post. I am a coffee lover and must have it as right after brushing my teeth in the AM. I have not been able to figure this problem out either. I have paid the $15 for room service for a pot of coffee, but that can run into quite a few bucks when you are away for a week. It is almost like a drug addiction. Any solutions?

There are lots of one-cup makers out there. I have a Hamilton Beach one. Do a search on the web -- I know Hammacher Schlemerer (sp?) has one, probably Williams Sonoma, any place like that.

When my coffee addict hubby had to face four days camping with our son with no coffee I tried to find a non-electric one for him, but no luck.

Gimmee that Joe!
I've been buying & using (and losing!<g>) "1 cup brewers" from Campmor camping supplies for about 20 years. It's a funnel-shaped device that needs no filter and goes over the cup. $2.99 item 80750-N www.campmor.com

I use an immersion heater if necessary, but will use a hotel coffee maker to make the hot water, yet still brew the coffee in this device, which allows me to make a STRONG cup of Joe, the way I like it. Brew my own cup at work too, even if there's coffee in the pot. Just love the device. (remove x in my eddress to reply)

I never leave home without my Black & Decker One Cup coffee maker and my own coffee. I've had it for years. There's no burner, just a plastic base, so I bring plastic mugs (very nice ones I found at Crate & Barrel). You just fill the cup with water, pour it into the coffee maker. The basket has a built in gold filter that takes exactly one coffee measure of coffee. I carry coffee and the plastic measure in a Rubbermaid container. All of this fits nicely in a small paper shopping bag with handles, or I pack it in the suitcase when flying. I don't like powdered cream either. Nearly every place we stay has a mini-bar or fridge. We either buy a small carton of half and half along the way, or ask the bartender (or hostess of the dining room) for a container of cream. Or, wherever we have dinner, I ask the waitress for some cream in a to-go-container. Another technique is to get a 16-ounce stainless steel thermos. Nowadays, there's a Starbucks or other quality coffee shop near the hotel. I just have that filled the night before and it's still nice and hot in the morning. I don't mind paying a little extra for room service coffee. But, by the time they add all the extras to the price of a pot of coffee, it's outrageous!

I use a 4 cup percolater. It has the basket and stem for the ground coffee. It doesn't take up anymore space in your luggage than a pair of shoes, or a folding hairdryer.

I have been using this same coffee pot for 20 years. I started looking around for another one because I was afraid it would someday quit working. I found the same pot at an Ace Hardware store, only now, it is sold in a kit with cups, and containers for coffee and sugar etc. I use Ziplock bags for condiments and they also pack well. I buy flat filters to put inside the basket.

The coffee pot is made by Empire.

Believe it or not the individual coffee bags are great....we started to use them while camping and now I pack them for all trips.
