Coconut mist drink at Kowloons ??

I'm trying to make this drink for my friend's Wedding, but I don't know where to turn. I travelled to the boston area last month for a bridal shower. We had the best mixed drink, COCONUT MIST, at a resturant in Saugus MA call Kowloons. I asked what was in it & they told me fruit juice, coconut milk & rum. I want to bring these drink ingredients to the wedding in April, but I can't make it taste the same as the one at "Kowloons". I know it's not really travel related question, but I know there are very informed people on this site, Sooo...... Any help would be awesome !! !!

(I checked all the mixology sites to no avail)

Check out the www.phantomgourmet.com website; they are the ones who organized a huge food festival at Kowloon's last weekend. The site has a message board and I'm sure if you post your request, someone will help you out. Or, check out their review of Kowloon; there may be a contact name.

Thanks for the info Eddie !! I posted the question there too.

I did call the resturant, but they said they don't give out their recipes.

Another option Brenda would be to go to www.dining-out.com. It is a restaurant talk show here in Boston on the weekends. Maybe you can contact the host Pat and ask him for help or listen on the web and call in.

Brenda- I was thinking some more about the drink. I know someone in the wholesale business of drinks, smoothies, etc. The restaurant may have told you what is in it but of course would not tell you it is a frozen mix. I know there is a line of drink mixes (you can either add liquor to it or not) called "Maui." Bars and restaurants have Maui's special blender and they use the flavored mix along with a base. I don't know if they have a website or not but you could search. Maybe you can purchase the mixes. They are delicious and taste very natural. Alot of juice bars use the product. Good luck

Thanks for the info !! I tried searching the web for the Maui mixer, but no luck. I did find out that they do use some kind of mixer that you can only get wholesale. I don't know the name though..... I guess I could keep trying to make it on my own, but it's a work night : ) I might not be able to get up in the morning. This drink is so good, though. They serve it in a coconut. It's white in color like milk/coconut milk with a hint of coconut, plus some kind of sweet flavor that I just couldn't put my finger on.
I think I'm obsessed now, I just have to find out....Thanks again

Woops, somehow my reply didn't post. Brenda - try www.mauifrozendrinks.com
Maybe you can call them and they will help you out.

People reading this thread must think this is a pretty strange discussion but like you, when there is something I want to find out about not much stops me. Good Luck

It sounds like a Pina Colada but with "fruit" juice instead of pineapple juice. What color was the drink? As coconut milk is white, the fruit jucie would provide the color.

Call or write to the Boston Herald. On Wednesday there is a column of people requesting recipes from different restaurants. Whomever compiles the questions also gets the requests filled and publishes the recipe. Say that you're from out of the area, that you want the recipe for a wedding, and make your letter sappy, as it will get more attention.

It was just white in color. It wasn't really like a pina colada because the coconut flavor was really subtle. You couldn't taste pineapple, but somekind of sweetness was apparent. I'm just going to keep trying different concoctions.....we'll see what happens : ) Thanks again all for the help !!

This sounds like a drink that the restaurant made up themselves. Bartenders often have their own concoctions. They are such jerks for not giving you the recipe.

Brenda, saw your post on the Phantom Gourmet site, but you might have better luck emailing your request directly (it goes to the producer) instead of waiting for a response from a poster. The email address is: [email protected]
