CMS Schools

Hi! I'm 17, and I just moved to Charlotte for my senior year of high school (gulp). I've heard a variety of things about my new high school (Providence High) and CMS schools in general. I moved from Atlanta, Fulton County, actually, so my previous school (and system) was about the same size, and a little disorganized, but good overall. Does anyone have any info on Providence High or CMS schools in general? I would really appreciate it- it makes my transition a little bit easier! Thanks!

Providence High is our newest and probably poshest high school--the best that taxpayer money can buy. It is also among the tops academically.

CMS takes a beating in the local media, but nationally they rank very well for urban school districts. Providence is always at the top of the list for academic performance. You should do very well. Best of luck.

My stepdaughter is a student at Providence. It is in the top 50 high schools in the United States. The only school in the Charlotte Mecklinberg area that ranks higher is Myers Park.

Just curious: Who decides the "top 50 high schools in the United States" and what are the criteria. (Sorry, but I'm always suspect of "top" lists.)

It was either Parade, Newsweek, or USA Today.

The criteria are many different things.

Welcome to NC shinon098.

All NC schools are ranked by the ABC's of ??? (education, instruction, something like that). The rankings should be available on the NC Dept of Public Instruction website.

Thanks so much for all of your help! I feel a lot better about it already! And thank you, also, for being so welcoming! I know I made the right choice in moving here
