cleveland nightlife

A couple buddies and I are considering a Memorial Day weekend trip to Cleveland. Never been there and wondering where the good nightlife is at, not looking for college scene, but upper 20's, young 30ish types. The Flats? Warehouse Dist.? Ohio City? Help me out please. . .

Shooters or Rivers Edge in the Flats.

Liquids in the Warehouse district is interesting, give that one a shot. As for the flats, I'd recommend the west bank. Anything in the Powerhouse, (Howl, Rock Bottom, Improv, Powerplay) should contain a 30ish crowd, as will Shooters just across the road. Memorial day weekend Shooters will likely have a decent band playing on the deck.

Thanks for the insights. Another question-any high recommendations on restaurants in the area? Nothing fancy, but good quality food. Thanks again, in advance.

Tim-On the West bank of the Flats, Shooters or Rock Bottom Brewery probably your best bets. On the East bank (take a water taxi across the river) is the Watermark-more business casual/upscale than either Shooters or Rock Bottom. There's a Hard Rock cafe if you're into those located in Tower City, which is quite near the Flats. Also might try Fat Fish Blue, on the corner of Prospect and Ontario, about 2 blocks up from our baseball park, Jacobs field. FFB used to be a parking garage at one time for a local dept store, which has since closed. If you head to the Warehouse district, the restaurants will be more upscale, but if you're interested, there's Greek Isles, Blue Point Grille, or a wonderful place called Mallorca. You might want to check out Cleveland Magazine's Restuarant guide at www.clevelandmagazine.com for alternative ideas. Have fun on your trip.

Yes, check out the Flats for some nightlife, but your idea of Ohio City/Tremont is also a good one. Lots of bars and restaurants there. Cleveland Heights (Coventry area) is fairly close to downtown and caters to your age group. you may want to go to Cleveland.com and look up more info. One of my favorite restaurants is Mallorca in the Warehouse District. Reasonable prices, wonderful food, great atmosphere. All kinds of food, ranging from seafood to veal to steaks to game. Specials galore. Lots of very good restaurants in Ohio City / Tremont too.

Thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated. Just curious, is Ohio City/Tremont area very far from downtown?

Tim-Ohio City/Tremont from downtown can't be more than a 10-minute drive-tops! That includes catching some red lights.

JustMe-You idiot! The river caught fire a long time ago. They have cleaned it up! Don't go bashing someplace you know nothing about...

Felix-
Thanks for your urbane, hip assistance-it was much appreciated. It just seems unfortunate we probably won't have a chance to hang out with you, since Cleveland doesn't seem to fit your exotic lifestyle. Then again. . .I'm wondering about someone named Felix, who seems to take pride in the whole "Felix the Cat" persona-perhaps it's just as well we won't see you in Cleveland.
