Claustrophobic - Avoid Baltimore Tunnel

I need to drive from CT to Alexandria, VA and need to avoid the Baltimore Tunnel due to claustrophobia. Can anyone recommend the best route?

Looking at Google Maps either direction on the 695 avoids the tunnel.

Yes. I have driven the 695 route and can confirm that it has no tunnels, though it takes you fairly far out to do so.

It joins I-95 at both ends.

Yes, I-695 (the beltway) is the way to go. If you go west, it's all on the surface, if you go east, you have to go over a very high bridge that crosses the harbor. But either way will take you back to I-95.

I prefer the westerly route of 695.
