City Park from French Quarter....
We are staying in the French Quarter, but would loved to venture to City Park for part of the day. Is there a bus/trolley or any means of transportation other than a cab to get there? Where do we get on it? And any helpful ideas for this newbie in NOLA as far as fun things to do?
thanks!!!

There is a trolley on Canal St. (there are many stops along Canal) that goes to City Park (not to be confused with the trolley that goes to the cemetery which also is in the direction of the park, but the park trolley turns right towards the end of the line, and the other continues straight ahead).
City Park is well worth a visit. The park has the New Orleans Museum of Art, a sculpture garden, bontanical garden, small amusement park and playgorund for younger kids, and various recreational facilities.
You can also take teh St. CHarles trolley to the garden district where there are some lovely homes. If you continue on the trolley you will pass Tulane and Loyola U, and Audubon Park.
In the French Quarter, my favorite area was the area around Jackson Sq. And be sure to have an afternoon Cafe Au Lait and Beignet.

We took the trolley from Canal to the Park. We visited the Park, and the Arts Museum, then walked back to the French Quarter. It was a hike! BUT it was also a gorgeous day and we enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful architecture along Esplanade!

Thanks for the fast responses! I am wondering, do you take just any trolley, and I presume there are several places to get off/on correct? I remember one time we took one to Magazine street, it was a green trolley. I have heard you need to take a certain color to different areas.
I'm really looking forward to this.
Thank you!

New Orleans has actually done this fairly well. Instead of having lots of silver trains with a "color" sign in front indicating which line (red, green, etc.), our entire car is painted that color.
The green cars are on St. Charles Avenue.
The red cars are riverfront and Canal lines. All Canal cars start at the French Market station and then turn onto Canal. 2/3 of them go to the cemeteries, I believe, while the other 1/3 go to City Park along the North Carrollton Avenue spur.
Just look for a 'CANAL' red streetcar with either 'CITY PARK' or 'BEAUREGARD CIRCLE' on the front. This will drop you at the park.
Don't fret if you get on the wrong one as you can get off at Canal/Carrollton and wait on the next one!
