I'm going insane looking for this delicious Italian nougat candy with almonds called "torrone" in my area, and not having any luck. I've tried speciality gourmet stores, but many only carry it during the holidays. Will be heading into New York City on the weekend and wondering where I can buy this delicious candy, maybe someplace in Little Italy area? Can anyone help?

I don't know exactly what candy you mean but, there's an Italian food importer/distributor near my house in suburban Philadelphia that you may want to call, Bova Foods in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.

Torrone is difficult to make in humid weather. It is a Christmas treat in many Italian families. The best torrone I have had is from a candy maker in Fort Myers FL, Norman Love Chocolates. He makes specialty chocolates for the G line for Godiva but his own chocolates are awesome. I just bought a bar of Torrone last week which had pistachio nuts in it and had a thin dark chocolate cover to keep it fresh. Amazing.

Ooooo, you've got the same addiction I now have! I particularly love "torrone morbido" -- weird name for the soft nougat. I've googled "torrone" and found some who will mail it in boxed form to you, but I'd surely love to hear of any retailer in NYC (or elsewhere) where you can walk in and get a sliced of home-made.

Found a place that sells torrone candy in Little Italy. It's called Ferrara's Cafe, and they sell the candy both in big pieces where you can buy a slice or boxed. It's located at 195 Grand St (between Mulberry and Motts Sts) which should be Little Italy. I'm going to check it out soon..

HI Gail--I would be very surprised if you don't find it in every little deli type store in Little Italy. (And they often have it at Trader Joe's, even non-holiday but may not be an option for you). I have seen it in a small city/suburb of Boston at an Italian deli sandwich shop, so I am sure it is *no problem* finding it all over in NYC.
