Wantsomesun, thank you so much for your very generous offer. It is very very kind of you. It's people like you that make the world such a wonderful place.
I'm overwhelmed by your kindness, but I feel I'll be better off enjoying solitude this Christmas. I am looking forward to the plans I've made and I'll be very busy. I really won't have a lot of time to spare between the 2 shows I'm attending.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

If you feel like a "home cooked" meal anytime during your stay, please feel free to come up for dinner. The kitties love to have company, another hand to pat them. We will have a large tree in the window, and tons of Christmas lights. I'd decorate the cats if they would let me. I am pretty sure I have enough decorations to do all the holiday displays at Macy's!!

I am a HUGE "Chrisaholic", and start decorating for the holidays just after Halloween, lol.

So please know you are welcome to come and join in our holiday cheer!!!

Thank you soooo much!
Do your kitties hide so that they don't have to wear Christmas outfits? LOL.

My little dog does get to wear a Christmas collar with bells on it. SOmeone once bought her a Santa suit , but fortunately it was too small.

Again I really appreciate your offer, and I promise I'll give it some thought.

Interesting reading re Christmas lunch in New York City. We are two families (and one grandma) from Sydney and we'll be in NYC on Christmas Day. We are looking for a traditional Christmas lunch in the Mid-Town area. We've emailed some of the big hotels but no reply.Any suggestions? Is Cibo any good?

Hi again, Kodi. Thought you may be interested to know that I have today booked Oscar’s, American Brasserie at the Waldorf Astoria, for xmas lunch.

It looks lovely and they have been very quick with responses to my emails. Its $65US a head for a xmas buffet.

Hope this helps.

May not be in the area you are seeking (it is downtown on Spring Street) but Balthazar is open on Christmas Day.

Thanks , ekscrunchy for the info. I've read really wonderful things about this restaurant. I'll be sure to check it out.

Aussiedreamer, congratulations on your Xmas lunch decision! ah, now if I could only make my decision.
If I had to plan all over again, I'd do as you are and go to the Rockettes on Xmas Eve . It sounds like gazing at the Xmas windows on Xmas eve will be really busy.
Anyway, since I'm seeing the Rockettes on Xmas afternoon and then Stomp in the evening, I've no choice but to have my main meal at 5 pm or so, between shows. I wanted to make sure I was busy on Xmas day! I'll check to see if Oscars is open for dinner.
I hope you have a great time!!

Oh, Christmas in NY is fun. We have done several since DD moved there about 4 years ago. I was thinking of not going this year, but reading this thread makes me want to head to NYC for Christmas.

We love shopping at the Christmas Market at Union Square, even if it is cold, and going to see decorations. We have had Christmas Eve dinner at my cousin's house, where we have a gift exchange and get a huge take out dinner from Carmine's. It is fun.

We have had Xmas dinner at DD's place, but I would love to talk her into going out this year. She is a good cook, but wants all the dishes she loved as a child, and I end up carting a lot of food from Pgh to NY. Last year we bought a filet roast at Dean and DeLuca. Cowabunga, that was expensive!

Oh, I love Christmas in New York. I'm not sure if they're open on Christmas, but my favorite restaurants are Union Street Cave, Balthazar, and Babbo. Mary's Fish Camp is GREAT for lunch. Have a great time!!!

My husband and I will be traveling from Louisiana to spend Christmas in New York City. We were wondering when the best time would be to go to Radio City Music Hall while we are there? We arrive Dec. 23 and leave Dec. 27. Also, do any of the restaurants serve old fashioned Christmas dinner (turkey, dressing, etc.)? We were also wondering about volunteering for a soup kitchen or homeless shelter on Christmas day. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!!

pgiovingo,

anytime you can get tickets to Radio City Hall Music is a good time Are you hoping to see the Christmas Spectacular?

Regarding restaurants check out chowhound.com lots of restaurants have their menus posted.

You might do best to ask another question here on Fodors asking for a traditional turkey dinner near your hotel.

Happy holidays

Re your question about volunteering:

If you want to volunteer at a shelter or a soup kitchen on Christmas day in NYC, there are many organizations, but you will need to do some research, because many of our charities here require a longer term commitment than just on that holiday itself.
My suggestion is to google and find the NYC Mayor's Office website which has volunteer opportunites, also craigslist.org may have some information. Many people like to do this, just for that day, good luck in finding an opening.

And finally-have a fine Christmas here in New York, you deserve it!

pgiovingo,

Bowery Mission (along eastside Bowery Street, about 4 blocks south of Houston).

Yorkville Pantry (109th Street and Madison).

We are staying on 45th street - would either of these places be nearby or easily accessible by the subway?

Thanks!

I don't know which part of 45th Street you're staying at, but these are the subway lines that go to those places.

Yorkville Pantry can be reached via northbound (or uptown) 4, 5, or 6 subway trains and getting off at 110th Street station. The closest station to get on at 45th Street would be Grand Central Station.

Bowery Mission can be reaached via (downtown or Brooklyn-bound)) B, D,F or V subway trains and gettingoff at Lafayette or 2nd Avenue stops.
