Chicago's Hotel 71

Can anyone tell me anything about this property? I'm looking to do a midweek meeting with little notice and found this hotel that appears to be a great deal ($109/night) and the photos on the Orbitz site make it look great. It's very close to my meetings, but I've never heard of it. Anyone with experience with this place?

I should have also added that suggestions for alternative hotels would also be welcome if they are in the Monroe/Wacker area.

I don't know much about it but it was recently redone. it used to be the executive plaza. The location is good on the south side of the river near michigan ave. - check out tripadvisor.com see if any one reviewed it

If you want to be in the Monroe/Wacker (that would have to be South Wacker then, right?) area, then 71 isn't going to be all that convenient for you. It's confusing because Wacker Drive runs east/west for a bit and then makes a right angle turn and becomes a north/south street, with no name change. But 71 with be about a mile from Monroe at Wacker - a very healthy (20-25 min)walk or congested cab ride across the Loop.

If you need to be near Monroe and Wacker, which is on the west side of the loop, then the W City Center (the one on Adams, not the one on the lakeshore) or the Hotel Allegro would be closer.

my friends stayed there and loved it. it overlooks the river to view the sun-times building. i agree the allegro is better located for monroe/wacker. however, it's a lovely walk through the theatre district in the morning.
