I will be going to Chicago at the end of June, will be going to a Cubs game. Will be traveling with a small dog.

Can anyone recommend a fairly nice, not-to-expensive hotel, not too far from Wrigley? Or is that even possible or recommended?

Best Western Hawthorne Terrace is the closest hotel to Wrigley. I'm not sure how "fairly nice" you're looking for, but it's far from luxury. Reports I've read say it's fine for a budget hotel, though. If you're going to be enjoying any of the rest that Chicago has to offer, you'll find nicer hotels along Michigan Avenue and in the Loop area. I'm sure some of them allow dogs, but don't know which. check out sites like www.petfriendly.com (a google search should turn up others) for listings of hotels that do.

Assuming you will be traveling by car, my question to you is; You are going to Chicago with a car and a dog????? Good luck.

I've seen that syc has recommended this eatsleepgo website quite a number of times today, for cities all over. Not sure how it is for anyplace else, but for Chicago it seems a waste of time to even look there. It only lists 1 hotel in the central Chicago area - Hotel Indigo. Nothing against that hotel, but there are certainly a large number of others that a visitor would want to consider when visiting the city.

VisitNOLA - You will likely have trouble finding a hotel that will allow you to leave your dog in the room alone while you go to the game, and I highly doubt you can take the dog to the game. Since it's probably going to be quite warm in June in Chicago, you will also not be able to leave the dog in the car while you go to the game (not that I'd recommend that at any time of year for such a length of time) . . . Have you made plans for the dog's care while you're busy sight-seeing, eating and going to the game?

This is probably out of your price range but I had to stay at the Hotel Monaco while in Chicago on business and they are pet friendly.

I wouldn't dream of leaving the dog unattended in an unfamiliar place; and not even 2 minutes unattended in a car. Thanks for your concern, because I have seen people doing this.

How bad is traffic in Chicago? If I have a Hotel 15 miles from Wrigley, how long should I allow to get to a game?

I stayed at the Allegro Hotel a couple of weeks ago and saw people who had their dogs with them (they were in cages--the dogs not the people). Don't know where this is in relation to Wrigley Field. The Allegro is in the theatre district (The Loop area). Our weekend rate was $129/night. Very nice hotel, room was large but bathroom was very small.

Traffic in Chicago is generally bad, but it all depends on where you're coming from. If you can stay someplace that allows you to travel by train to get there, that will be easiest.

For more specific info about staying at a particular hotel, you'll get the best advice if you can tell us the hotel name.

VisitNOLA, I see that the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace is supposedly pet-friendly (but you need to show the cage at check-in). In addition, right across the street from the hotel is a dog-walking service which is called (I believe) "Top Dog". Perhaps they have pet-sitting too or know of some company that does this for the short period of time for the game.

Why not give the people at BWHT a call to see if they have the number of the dog-walking company to see what they can do. There are also several kennels around town - perhaps a short stay there could overcome your problem.

By the way, there is a parking garage right next door to the BWHT.
