Chicago v. NYC, which city do you like better?

Been to both, but haven't been to NYC for a whil. Really like Chicago, for food, museums, walkability, and general feel. NYC is a little overwhelming. It has the museums, too, but seems to promote its Theater (which we are not big fans of). Does anyone get back from NYC and simply not want to return? Your thoughts, opinions, etc. Thx.

I live in Chicago but there's no place in the world like New York. My blood races whenever I'm there. Chicago's great, a little more laid back and easy to get around. A bit greener too, and the lakefront is amazing for such a large city. But New York is world class.
For many it's overwhelming, but for me that's part of the rush.

Gotta agree with West Coast and Dan. Lived in both cities -- MUCH prefer NYC. In Chicago, you put up with all of urban inconveniences without any of the NYC splendor.

I, too, have been to both (okay, I live in NY) and although they are both great towns, there's just something about New York. I've travelled a lot and although, I've loved everywhere I've visited, with the exception of Arizona - NEVER AGAIN! - I would visit again but will always come home.

[Please keep in mind if NYC is overwhelming, there are also suburbs in which you can stay and just commute into the city - by Metro-North, usually about 20 min. tops.]

I come from England and have visited NYC and Chicago in the last nine months. I thought both cities had such a buzz. Times Square was just brilliant but I saw a lot of New York and I liked it all.
Chicago was great too and it looked so stunning in July with beautiful weather. The people were more friendly in Chicago and were interested in us.
I would go back to both cities at the drop of a hat.
