Chicago Theater Discount Tickets

Where is the most reliable place to look for reduced theater tickets?
What about checking with the theater day of performance?
Thanks!

Check the Chicago League of Theatres at www.chicagoplays.com. They operate Hot Tix which offers seats at 50% of the normal price and there is a link on the site.

Hot Tix has two outlets in the city at 72 E Randolph, across from the Cultural Center, and at 163 E Pearson, across from the Old Water Tower. Not all shows offer discounts and the selection can vary day-to-day, so if there's a particular show you're interested in seeing, you'd do best buy tickets as soon as possible.

We bought tickets for Billy Elliot at Hot Tix (at half price) on our recent trip to Chicago. You can sign up for their email which is sent out 2x/week, so you can have a sense of which discounted shows are available. Also, their website usually lists (and sells) discounted shows for the following 3-4 days, so you can buy a few days in advance.

Steppenwolf offers "20 for $20" and 50% off rush tickets on the day of. Goodman offers "Tix at Six" (which I believe is 50% off). Rush tickets are subject to availability... but Steppenwolf offers the "$20" promotion for every mainstage show. I imagine Victory Gardens, Timeline and Royal George might offer some sort of day-of price... but it all depends on how hot the show is.

Also, signing up at https://www.goldstar.com/ you might be able to find 1/2 price tickets.
Have a great time in Chicago!

The theatres operated by Broadway in Chicago are The BofA, Palace, Broadway Playhouse and Oriental. Whether they have discounts depends more on the production than the theatre. Some shows like Wicked or Rent sell a limited number of discounted tickets to all performances while others may only discount tickets if regular sales are slow.
