Chicago Style Dog

Hi All,

My husband and I are traveling to Chicago mid November and I have got to try a Classic Chicago hot dog while I'm there. If anyone knows of a good place to go that is located close to the Magnificent Mile (I'll be doing a lot of shopping) I'd appreciate it if you could let me know Thanks

Fluky's in the Northbridge shopping area adjacent to Nordstrom on Michigan Ave.

Also, Gold Coast Dogs on Wabash around Randolph (a little south of the river).

Scarlett, our dogs are almost as famous as our pizza! For a real Chicago style dog, never put ketchup on it, only mustard and it should have a poppy seed bun. Gold Coast Dogs, mentioned above, is my favorite.

You have to go to Weiner's Circle!! It's the best char-dog you'll ever have! It's open into the wee hours of the night and is located up in Lincoln Park on Lincoln Ave. and Wrightwood. It's a small hole i the wall, but is they have the best hot dogs in town. I miss them so much! We moved to San Francisco recently, and will be going to Weiner's Circle when we come back to visit.

ONLY mustard on your Chicago Classic dog? Somebody mentioned celery salt.... what else? FYI, a Carolina Classic has cole slaw, raw onions, chili .... lots of us adding mustard to that! YUM!!! But I'm willing to try one of your's next time I fly through O'Hare!

See if you can have Fluky's ship a couple of dogs to Spring Valley before you arrive...

Chicgal, thank you for that link! Just checked it out....... That's quite a combination of toppings! I'll try yours, if you'll try mine. Of course, then you'd need my cole slaw recipe or *it ain't the same!* I imagine your's would taste best IN Chicago, where I have not had the pleasure of being, except in the airport! Thanks again.........

Since we have a lot of Chicago Weiner expertise here, which would be closest to the Allegro Hotel, 171 West Randolph Street?

I haven't been lucky enough on my visits to have a Chicago Style Dog, but I do know about Carolina Style dogs.

Here in North Carolina, they put so much stuff on their dogs you can't taste the dog!

OH, oh I must correct my previous vague post-when I said only mustard, I meant no ketchup, only mustard but you have to load it up with the other good stuff including veggies. I forgot all about Weiner Circle, might have to do with the fact that it was on our post bar circuit and I have no real recollection of what they taste like!!!!!

Curious, it is best to have those new quarter-pound dogs to stand up to all the traditional toppings on the Carolina dog, like slaw, chili and onions! I also like a hot dog with ketchup, yellow mustard, onions and relish. My husband is not a hot dog person, and cannot believe how I love them, with their (rumored) insect bits and all!

PLEASE, do not go to Fluky's! It's not THAT good. I hate steamed hot dogs, and that's what they serve. You have to make the trek to Lincoln Park (only like 1 $10 cab ride or take the El to Fullerton and walk). Trust me - my fiance is a hot dog fiend, and we have been to all of the hot dog places in Chicago....Weiner's Circle is the best. I don't think there is more than one location.

Yes, you're right. It is on Clark Street...my apologies. The zoo is great and they can take a nice stroll on Clark Street to all the shops and boutiques along the way to WC. Have fun!

So many places to go

-Wieners Circle is great
-So is superdawg http://www.superdawg.com/ , but this is not that close to where you will be at
-Gold coast dogs is great
-and I like Flukys also

Red hot mamas makes me laugh - I used to eat cheese dogs at 4 am there after drinking orange whips at game keepers across the street - I only know that it was great drunk food

As far as toppings -
mustard, relish(super food color green if possible), cererly salt, onions, mabye sliced tomates.

Never ever ketchup - use that on fries, better yet get cheese fries !!!

Cheese dogs and Chili dogs and Chili/Cheese dogs are common also.

!Warning about Gold Coast Dogs Cheese fries - They are huge potatoes covered in meleted chedder cheese curds, I LOVE it, but it may give someone an instant heart attack

I really enjoy the .99 hot dogs at 7-ELEVEN.

Steamed dogs, steamed buns, and loaded with condiments. Yes to ketchup, no to celery salt.

Yummy, just like I used to eat circa 1965, on Chicago Ave. and Waller.
