Chicago-show suggestions?

Thinking of doing my birthday weekend in Chicago late October. I was really hoping to see Late Nite Catechism, but "Metromix" says that it is only showing in Aurora, IL. Does anyone know if this is correct? If it is, does anyone have recommendations for another quality show that would be closer to Downtown? Preferably a comedy, but not an absolute requirement.

Thanks in advance!

My first vote would be for Mamma Mia but I think it leaves chicago before the end of October, you might check. I saw it earlier this summer and thought it was great. It is a musical but set to old 70s ABBA songs. For a comedy, I'm not sure what is playing right now. check the Chicago Sun-Times entertainment section online. If you have never seen it, I would suggest a very old favorite, Tony n Tina's Wedding at Piper's Alley. It is an interactive comedy about an italian catholic family wedding. Obviously you will see more recent shows in the entertainment guide, but you can't beat this one!

First of all dont use MetroMix it SUCKS! they dont list all shows, restaurants, concerts etc. As far as I know Mama Mia is no longer playing here. I second Tony and Tina. Late Night Catechism is playing at the Royal George Theater in Chicago on Halsted St. I saw it and did not find it that funny and I attended 12 years of catholic school. You can try The Baton for a female impersonator show, that should be fun. Also Blue Man Group is playing at The Briar St Theater. Zannies comedy club on Wells and North Ave is usually good for stand-up.

SHOCKHEADED PETER is playing in Chicago on a limited run. You can check it out at www.shockheadedpeter.com It's fabulous!

Saw it in Mpls last year, flying to Seattle to see it again.

They were offering 2 for 1 tickets if you requested "K" type tickets.

Thanks to all who replied. I've already seen Blue Man Group, and while I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'm going to save a return visit for when my kids can go. Late October will be a group of Mom's getting a much-needed night away. I was really hoping Late Nite would be fun...any other critiques of that show?

My mother-in-law LOVED it. We all grew up Catholic and still are (to varying degrees.) Any other opinions?

Kelly, "Mamma Mia" is definitely gone and "Shockheaded Peter" is only playing through Oct. 14, not that I would recommend it anyway, a little too weird for me.

"Late Night Catechism" is playing at the Royal George in Chicago as well as the Rialto in Joliet (near Aurora). I haven't personally seen it but it's been running for a long time and gets good reviews in the local papers.

You might also consider Second City, their new revue, Embryos on Ice, has gotten good reviews or "The Bomb-itty of Errors", a hip hop version of Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors" which has also gotten good reviews.

I find Metromix to be quite useful although sometimes out of date so always double check to see if the restaurant/show, etc is still open. You can also check www.chireader.com for more theater reviews.

Since it's your birthday and you're just here for the weekend, you'll probably want to get advance tickets but Hot Tix for the last couple of weeks has had tickets to just about everything for the weekend dates, including "Late Night Catechism". There are branches near State Street (on Randolph) and near Water Tower.
