Chicago/Rosemont area restaurants

I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare for a business trip in the coming weeks and was looking for some restaurant suggestions. Are there good restaurants near the airport? Where can I go that's yummy, reasonable, and fairly east to reach?
Any other tips for fun in Chicago?

Near (or in) rosemont is Harry Carrys, and Gisbons steakhouse both of-shoots of the Downtown versions.

if you are at the hyatt you can hop on the blue line subway and go into to city pretty easly about a 40 minute ride, if you were interested.

In the Chicago area? Forget it unless you want fast food.

In the nearby suburb of Park Ridge, we like Siam Thai restaurant (behind the Pickwick Theatre). It's casual and inexpensive.

In the Chicago neighborhood of Edison Park, on Northwest Highway between Touhy and Devon, there are a dozen neighborhood restaurants. Two of the nicer ones are Zia's (northern Italian) and Don Juan's (upscale Mexican). These are moderately priced, but far cheaper than you would pay downtown or near the airport. Southeast of the airport, along Irving Park Road in Norridge, are a host of southern Italian places.

All of these are about 15 minutes from the airport by car or cab. Go to metromix.com for details and reviews.

Hi jacketwatch,
I'm pretty flexible on types of food. I'll have "convention center" type breakfast and lunch, so I'll be up for whatever!!

I disagree on the recommendation for Siam Thai - found the food very greasy. I prefer a Thong Thai east on Touhy across from the leaning tower YMCA. Very small store front but excellent & reasonable food - it is BYOB. La Tasca for tapas is very good - just opened in Park Ridge as well. I prefer Hay Caramba (Park Ridge) to Don Juan's but I do love Zia's!

If you are staying out by the airport/rosemont and don't plan on coming downtown - I second the recomondation for edision park(far nw city of chicago) there is a great resturant row there and the resturants are quite afforadable

I think there is a Carlucci's near O'Hare..very upscale good Italian. For fun, big menu, decent wine list you can't beat Harry Caray's. Unless you venture to one of the suburbs or downtown you are somewhat limited by the airport.

OK! If you go to the Woodfield Mall area (anyone can give you directions and its only about 20 min. away) Try Maggianos for Italian,(great ambiance) Gaylords for great Indian food (ask for Darron and tell him Larry sent you), Wildfire for steaks, chops, etc., and House of Hunan for Chinese. For Thai there is a small, family run white table cloth place called Taste of Thai. We are never disappointed there. Also there is a Brazilian roasted meat place called Sol Carvao (spelling? but concierge should know) that is becoming very popular. Bon appetit! Larry

Almost forgot. For seafood try Dover Straits or Papadeauxes (New Orleans style)

One warning regarding traveling to Woodfield during the week. If taking the Kennedy expressway traffic can be terrible resulting in a commute that takes more than 45 minutes. The restaurants near Woodfield are nothing special - your standard chain restaurants. Would recommend again going to Zia's for great Italian food

There is a Rosewood Grill (great steaks) very close to O'Hare. Location is just west of the intersection of Higgins (?) and River Rd.

I like to stop at Mama K's for an Italian beef sandwich. It's on the east side of the airport and a bit of a hole-in-the-wall.

I also recommend you find a Chicago pizza place. I love the charred pepperoni at Gino's East. The stuffed spinach at Edwardo's is excellent too. There's a Gino's listed for O'hare, but an Edwardo's might be further away.

Actually Gaylords, taste of Thai, and House of Hunan are not chain places unless you count a chain as two locations, at least in the case of Gaylords and H of H. WildFire and Maggianos are part of the Lettuce entertain you group and judging by how busy they are they indeed have something special to offer IMHO. Being part of a group doesn't make them like Dennys, IHOP, etc. JM2C.

The Chicago area has a huge variety of great restaurants. One would need alot of time to say the least. Enjoy, Larry
