sorry, forgot to add that we've been to chicago before and stayed in river north at the embassy suites and also at the chicago hilton and towers near the art institute. we loved the latter, as we got a really good deal on some tower rooms. we've got the intercontinental booked at the moment, but we can easily change it. any thoughts on the interconti. we'd love to stay at the drake. somewhere on the mag mile for sure. thanks. xd.

Hello hello
I also like the Embassy Suites but they have gotten really pricey lately and it is hard to get a "deal" there anymore. Other ones to consider include the Marriott right on Michigan Ave., the Sheraton Towers just off Michigan on the river, the Summerfield Suites just off Michigan, the newly opened House of Blues on the River just off Michigan (you might remember the twin round sort of gray buildings with parking garages on the lower levels that were apartments - they were converted to the House of Blues). I have stayed at all of the above and can vouch for all of them as pleasant places. Of these I found the Sheraton to be the "coldest" for some reason, just seemed to be too big and impersonal. Others that I have heard good things about are the Hyatt on the river, the Swissotel on the river, the Fairmont (have stayed in Fairmonts in other cities and they are very, very nice but pricey).
Hope this helps you.

yeah, this really helps me. thanks. i've found that the embassy suites have got quite pricey too, and its not SUCH a nice hotel. the deal we got at the chicago hilton and towers last year was something special. we let an even better one at the swissotel pass us by. damn. what about the new w hotels? or offers at the new peninsula (i should be so lucky). thanks. xd.

I agree that the River North Embassy Suites is overpriced and, we found, a little worn around the edges. We like Swissotel, but it and the other hotels on the river are quite a walk from the "mag mile." I'd just go for the best deal you can get from the list you have been given.

I stayed at the Homewood Suites on W. Grand last year. Great place. Not huge, very friendly. Well within your budget if you're saying $200 per room/per night (i.e. $400/night) as you could have a suite and ask for a rollaway bed as well as the sofa bed in the living room. I think the rack rate was about $250/night but you may be able to find a better deal. Includes breakfast. One block off Michigan ave. Very well located. Owned by Hilton.
