Chicago Hotels in December

Looking at staying at either the Drake Hotel or Intercontinental Hotel South Historic Tower. Read good things about the Drake but like the Pool and Health Club at the Intercontinental. Any recommendations?

Open to suggestions for other 4 star hotels in the Michigan Ave area.

Why not try the Westin River North. It's really nice and service is top notch, and I believe it is less expensive and better located then the Drake

You can't go wrong with the Drake, the Ritz or the Four Seasons. They are all truly beautiful hotels. Where you stay depends on what you plan on doing. Michigan Avenue is the center of almost everything. The Inter-Continental is beautiful as well. All of these hotels, except the Drake, are right on/near Michigan Avenue. Any of these hotels would be a good choice. I have never stayed in them though because I live here, but I have visited all of them and it would be a tough decision.

If you haven't decided already, the Drake, the Four Seasons and the Palmer House are all beautiful at Christmas time and have wonderful holiday meals and high tea. All are situated very nicely in the city. The Drake and the Four Seasons are 1/2 block from the Fourth Pres Church, which hosts free holiday concerts during the month of December.

I would suggest the Palmer House Hilton Hotel, its a top notch hotel, with a great location, and a wonderful atmosphere. It also tends to be a little less crowded than the others.

Just stayed at Palmer House this weekend. And while the lobby/atmosphere is great, they are grossly overpriced IMHO. I didn't book the room, but $300+ for any basic (read small) hotel room is ridiculous. Also, I had to pay $9.00 to use the fitness room??!! Don't get me wrong, we had a wonderful time, but you can get more for your money and a better shopping location at Inter-continental or we enjoy the Omni on Michigan Ave.

I recommend the Westin River North or The Drake. The Drake IS actually on Walton and Michigan Avenue and is very centrally located.
