Chicago Baseball Help

I'm looking to have a weekend of Chicago Baseball in May. I'd like to see both the White Sox and Cubs in their perspective stadiums. I noticed both are home in early May. I plan on seeing the Cubs play on Friday and Saturday afternoons and the White Sox at night.
How are the Terrace Box seats at Wrigley Field?. I noticed a few available in the first 5 rows around home plate. Would those seats give you a good view of the field, any obstructions (people walking in front, or the net in the way)? Or would it pay to wait and buy tickets the day of the game?
Also for Commisky Park any recommended seats to view the game?
I'm flying in from NY, and wonder what would be a moderate hotel to stay at somewhere in between the 2 stadiums. What would be a good area to stay in for the ballgames.
Also which airport would you recommend, Midway or O'Hare for my purposes?

Thanks for your help!
Phil

I can't help you with the location of the seats, as I'm not a baseball fan.
The Wrigley Field is on the north side of Chicago near the lake, the Comiskey Park is on the south side near the lake. If you want to be somewhere 1/2 way between the 2, I would suggest downtown area for the hotel.
As far as the airport, Midway is little closer to downtown, but either one has great public transportaion to downtown. O'Hare may take about 10 minutes longer on the CTA, but again, unless Midway offers deals of the century, I would not really care which one. Pick the one that has a better deal.
There are so many hotel choices in the downtown area. If you are looking for an inexpensive stay, try priceline or hotwire, or if you are particular, then do the regular hotel room search, hotels.com, lodging.com, individual chain sites, etc...etc...
Have a great trip!!!

Don't wait to get Cubs tickets - they sell out regularly, despite everything. Both stadiums are easily accessible from the CTA red line. I'd recommend staying downtown near State Street and Grand - there are several chain hotels here (i.e. Embassy Suites), and the subway is very convenient.
You'll find answers to many visitor questions at:
http://www.chicago.il.org/

Go to the Cubs website for tickets and a seating plan. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/chc/ticketing/chc_seating_pricing.jsp
The club boxes are great! Terrace boxes are pretty far back - nowhere near as nice.

There are very few bad seats at Wrigley, unless you have an obstructed view, but you'll be in great shape if you are within the first 5 rows. The net is like any other net at a ballpark. I'd get my tickets earlier to avoid any problems. With Comiskey, only three words of advice, sit down low. The upper deck is easy to get up and down if you are a mountain goat, otherwise forget it.

Most of your hotels between the two parks would be located in the greater downtown-mag mile area. I'd say the Best Western Inn of Chicago would suit you the best, though you might want to see about deals at the Westin.

Airports- Downtown is closer to Midway, and is a direct shot away on the Orange line. It's a straight shot too O'Hare on the Blue line but it is farther away. Also, if you're renting a car the Stevenson is much easier to deal with than the Kennedy during rush hour. Keep in mind though, parking around Wrigley is non-existant. Fortunately both parks are accessible via the Red Line, though Comiskey is a bit scarier at night.

Buy Cubs tickets now. I've been to both parks with some friends. You can read our comments at www.ballparkroadtrip.com in the 2000 Trip section. We all flew into O'Hare. Wrigley is a small park so as long as you're not behind a column, you'll be fine.

I hope you got your tickets - the terrace box near home are very good sightlines at Wrigley. In May, the seats you're looking at will be shaded the entire game most likely. If you want sunny seats and a unique perspective of a Cub game, you might try to get bleacher seats. At Comisky, the lower the seats, the better. I like the seats very low near first or third.

For Wrigleyville area, let me know if you want restaurant/bar suggestions (I lived a block north of the park for 7 years).

Also, a good half-way point hotel is Red Roof Inn off Michigan on Ontario (I believe that's the cross street). Close to the CTA Red Line, which takes you north or south to the parks. And, it's a good location to see another part of the city. For the airports, either is fine. You can connect to either from the Red Line (transfer to Blue Line to go to O'Hare or Orange Line to Midway).

Doc,
We did a Cubs/Sox week of baseball last year. (Cubs-D'backs and Sox-Twins).

We've bought tics direct from the Cubs, from local friends and on the day of the games from "mobile independent facility entrance consultants" and they all worked.
Just don't let anyone sell you Cub's World Series tics. ;^D

If you are a real baseball fan, it's mandatory that you arrive to a Cubs game at least 3 hrs. before the game to get the full Wrigley Experience, right ChiTown Heather? Is the Piano Man Bar still around? El Jardin?

As for Comiskey, we always liked the bleacher seats. A lot of room and all the facilities right there, too.

They had a nice little BBQ/Picnic area below the RField bleachers that gives you a different perspective on the game.

We plan on coming back in Sept. so maybe a Chicago area Fodor's GTG baseball game?

Like mike and patg said a cental place to stay would be in D'town near a El stop. We've used Priceline and Hotwire to get excellent hotels all near a train stop.
We got the Westin on No Mich. last year and found that the both the D'backs and Twins stayed there. Made for some good bar/lobby watching.

Good luck. It will be fun.

Kal, definitely with you recommending getting to the Wrigley area early, esp. if they're going to a Friday afternoon game. If it's nice, the outdoor areas at any of the bars - particularly Murphy's - offers good peoplewatching. Yep, both bars still operating, tho El Jardin is under a new name (still serving vicious grain alcohol margaritas at last report). I've got some Cubs tix already for Sept. Will check the date. Always willing to go to the game or meet up before/after. My email is:
[email protected]
if you get tix.

Thanks to all for your valuable input!
I booked 2 nights at the Days Inn for $99 per night. The hotel is within walking distance of Wrigley.
I picked up Cubs tickets for 2 games in the terrace box area around home plate.
White Sox tickets are not on sale yet.
Thanks again for all your help, and I'm looking forward to a great baseball weekend!

Is that the Days Inn on Diversey? Not a short walk at all but you can catch the 22 bus (Clark) and it'll drop you off right by Wrigley.

It's about 1.25 miles. If I remember correctly, Days Inn is at about the 700 block of West Diversey, Wrigley is at 3600 block of North Clark/corner of Addison/Clark. Go to mapquest or mapblast and do a routing.
Have a great trip!

I love to walk so don't think it's awfully far, but at least 1.25 miles. As I mentioned, the 22 bus picks up 1 block from the hotel & drops at the park.

Also, almost literally around the corner from the hotel is La Creperie, a very good place for breakfast/brunch. If it's nice, sit out back. It's on Clark just north of Diversey (east side of the street). Also good is Ann Sather's on Belmont just west of Clark, or Salt & Pepper up by Wrigley on Clark. Right in the area surrounding Wrigley are so many bars and restaurants. Let me know if you want further info, but it's probably been posted here a lot already.
